Alright, having to start my own thread, though I really didn't want to do this
I searched online for Wine, the program that lets you run exe files on a mac, and I was bombarded by sites with downloads and how tos for using it.
This glut of information has severely intimidated me, as I am morbidly afraid of doing it wrong.
If anybody is willing to help me out, by basically walking me through the whole process, step by step, I would be greatly appreciative.

Hrm, after receiving some in-game OOC messages regarding Mac Clients, I decided to revisit this thread. I am making some progress and thought I would post an update.
Don't know why I ever wined about Wine installation. The hardest part was installing X11 from my Mac's startup disk. Found directions online from some blogger. Don't know if I could relocate that exact blog, but not to worry-- there is plenty of documentation out there.
Though, I Don't know if X11 was installed right, because afterwards I also had to run updates on all of my core Mac software. This was a PITA because it was time consuming, but otherwise not a problem. With X11 installed, I could DL & Install Wine.
There are several builds/variations on Wine, and this one came out on top: http://www.kronenberg.org/darwine/ Easy to install-- just drag and drop. Afterwards, download and install MushClient. It should work, PRESTO, no problems.
I started out by exploring a version of the AG system. Since VBScript is not native to Mac's, you will need to tap into TRIX, software which should be included with the Wine installer. Before starting setup on AG, you will need to find the box for "Windows Scripting 5.6, VBSCRIPT" to run the system.
After completely installing the system and updates (thanks to the one-on-one help of a friend), AG was up and running. My initial impression was that this is one comprehensive system. Later forays into simple hunts revealed that AG runs insanely slow.
Not sure why, But I am guessing that I need Wine to run MushClient, and Trix to allow VBscript. Talk about being non-native! After talking with a few tech friendly people, I decided to look for a system written in LUA, as it is more "compatible" (not sure if this is the best way to describe it) with Macs (as VBscript is a Windows coding language).
This points me to using Treant. So, I'm curious to run a side-by-side comparison on how quickly these systems run on a MacBook using MushClient under Wine. However, I can't seem to get Treant to File > New/Open World > Treant > Template.MCL to open, as it always crashes my computer. Not getting a specific error message, and the log file is incomprehensible to me.
Will have to read and reread Treant's directions carefully to see if I can't figure out if I am doing something wrong.
I am keeping my eyes on Mudlet, can't wait for a Mac Beta.

ACK ACK. Yeah-- you need that X11 file (you would also need this to run Gimp, the Open Source flavoured Photoshop program). Unfortunately this means... you won't be able to do the Wine > MushClient > system build.
You might have to look for a Mac-based mud program, like MudWalker or Atlantis. I liked Savitar... but none of these have a system ready-to-go. Which means you would have to code your own. And if you are like me, that isn't an option.
Third option is to wait and pray for Mudlet, a cross-platform, open source Mud program. This program is so new that it has just moved into a beta version (though not yet available for Macs). Again, no system, but I anticipate one to be built eventually.
So, in the meantime? Nexus will have to do.

EDIT:
No, I still hate Macs. In fact, I'm a firm believer all Macs should be sent to a isolated island in the Pacific and nuked once they're there.

thankyou
And I too hate macs. I'm just stuck with this untill further notice. Crap computer > no computer, after all.
Ok Jan, I have x11. Can you direct me to a link with whatever version of Wine it is that I need? And then possibly walk me through it step by step? Because I have no idea what I am doing. At all.

I just wanted to ask which versions of Wine people are using successfully with MUSHclient, Mac users especially. I tried downloading 1.1.7 (as what appeared to be the latest version available without having to kill myself installing... which I did try... the installing part, not the killing myself) ...... but I ran into an error when I tried to start up MUSH. I was just curious, before I continue to do dumb things and probably make it worse.

Unknown2009-05-09 05:49:47
I've successfully used it on Darwine but couldn't install any premade systems.

WOAH WOAH WOAH WAIT!
Considering I just spent an -enormous- amount of time figuring all this stuff out myself let me clear it up in 3 simple steps.
1: Go to http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki and download and install the X11.pkg version 2.3.3.2
2: Go to http://www.kronenberg.org/darwine/ and download and install Darwine stable 1.0.1
3: Run windows executables on your pertty Macintosh to pwn PC newbies. This works fine with Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.7
Oh, I highly advise you read up on wine and Darwine and all that bizz as much as possible. But once I had those two pkgs on my system Mushclient installed and loaded fine. And as far as importing premade systems (e.g., the Treant system), I've run into the same problem... though you can do it a slow, hard way, (Not following Zarquan's instructions), I'm trying to figure out what the hangup here is. It's very likely that the file system for OS X is the culprit meaning when you attempt to tell Mushclient where to find the template.mcl it has diarrhea of the stupid because it's not windows and it's not able to find it properly and crashes.
I've broken down and have been playing on my PC here, but I'm still trying to figure this out as the Macbook goes everywhere with me and is a much more convenient option for mudding when I want to.

If you have access to a Windows machine, you could load the system up there and just copy/move your world file over to the Wine setup (in theory).

Just installed OpenSuSe Linux 11.1 a lovely little operating system (Dual Booting it with Windows 7) and trying to get Treant to work under WINE. I've managed to get MUSHClient to install properly but when it comes to opening my Treant.mcl file from my windows install (copied into the WINE file system) I'm getting the same problem as others, MUSHClient is crashing without warning.
Anyone know how I can get at least a basic version of Treant working inside WINE?

Wine hates the import for whatever reason. I recommend you install Treant to a world file on a Windows system and try copying that over to Linux.
Chade2009-07-11 12:56:54
Wine just hated MUSHClient in general, turns out the config option I needed to change was which operating system Wine emulated MUSHClient under. Emulate under Windows 98 and the only thing you need to do is change some of the settings in the Treant_Plugin_Map to get it to display properly, I did all of my code editing and got Treant working while I was really drunk, so need to make sure it is work acceptably now. Seemed ok last night but not sure if it will slow down in group situations.
Rael2009-08-17 01:55:01
Would you mind going into some detail of your workaround? How do you get wine to emulate under Windows 98? Thanks

Load winecfg, you'll see the option there. You can't use the newer versions of wine, needs to be version 1.0.1. Wine also doesn't like the GUI aspects of Treant, if you turn them off you'll get much better speed out of it. Oh, my methods only work with linux too. I know nothing of macs.

On a side note, what would it take to adapt Treant for Mudlet? I tried to import/ copy-and-paste every Treant file over. Mudlet did not detect any major code errors, but it didn't work either. I think Z said Treant was written to take advantage of Mush, and wouldn't work in Mudlet despite the fact that it works on Lua. I still think there is some market for someone to release a Lusty Mudlet system for the Mac crowd.
