So, how does Saplock work, exactly? What skills go into it, what's the end result?
Also, Crunch! It's virtually the only instakill that Shofangi have besides Death Touch in Harmony. How the Nil (yes, I use that phrase IRL. Sue me) are you supposed to pull it off? The only head grapples we have are Choke and Lock, both of which are slower on balance than writhing. Seems... kinda useless to me.

Saplock is essentially a Druid's kill condition, it involves getting the Sap affliction on you (which puts a delay of 0.5 seconds on every command you enter and allows you to enter only one command at a time) and stacking a series of other afflictions on top to prevent you from curing it until they can kill you.

You don't. You slitlock them (butojo + senso venom), buck and other limb hinderings so cleanse doesn't work and green might not work, then keep hitting them until they slowly die of damage.
Also, I don't think choke (which is what you would use for crunch if you used it at all) is slower than writhe unless A) you're doing it out of form for testing, or they're contorting (or C they hinder you in any way.)
Unknown2009-04-08 05:46:42
Ah, right, I forgot that things were slower out of forms.
But yeah, that's my general strategy with Ila right now. Except that spars are frustrating as anything right now, since I can't effectively cure. Stupid Nexus. Macawi's system is great in theory, but Nexus is too slow to handle it. So it fails. Go figure.
I've never tried to use Crunch in combat, I just fillet them as best I can.

Actually, you do. Asmodea killed Thoros with it.
Basically, if the person you are fighting can tank your first easy button, you can switch to your backup and eventually you'll win.
edit: Oh and that one J shofangi (Jurgo?) drained all my endurance in an FFA (Awesome monks), and I just sat there for a long, long time tanking him. Eventually he switched over to crunch. Delete monks.

Yeah, if your opponent can't actually do anything you can crunch them. Regen makes it slightly more feasible than newbiekick against people who are afk, too. Or don't apply health to head.
EDIT: To be fair, it's easy to be confused into not applying health if you use something like buck head when they're not expecting it.
Ronny2009-04-08 12:01:12
Actually, Casilu once had me sit there applying to head and keeping wounds at 0 while she crunched me repeatedly. I died died at the 31st crunch or something with essentially no wounds to head and no affs.

What is buck?
You crazy monks and all your new-fangled skills. In my day, we just whored paralysis and venoms. And hoped there was a warrior to do our wounds for us. And we did it all with one alias! Unless, of course, the enemy was not a complete idiot and did something to hinder...and we liked it!
Kids these days...

Buck is our mangle/blackout/crushedchest/rupturedstomach attack (depending on area.)

What? I use the exact same system Thoros uses, and I know head always takes priority, and when he died to crunch he has no head wounds. I remember the situation quite well. It may take a while, but crunch IS an "eventually I win" tactic.

I did switch over to crunch against Celina but that was failing to kill her too so switched back to locking.
Anyways, both sides seem to hate how crunch works. Kinda pointless having a conversation about it where everybody agrees the formula for it sucks.

I never used it. I think heelslam is highly underrated by most Shofangi nowadays.

You can also use a buck to the head in the same form as your grapple to mask the grapple so they don't writhe out of it. Nifty little trick
Unknown2009-04-09 17:00:18
Protip from casilu: stunning works too I found even with hiding it in blackout, contortionists who diagnose as soon as it clears can still get out of the grapple in time.
I use heelslam sometimes. I wouldn't say its worse than buck since you use them for different things..
