If this is in the wrong place, please let it be moved.

That said, I don't know what it is, but I get that extreme rush of adrenaline just being in combat and I just kind of lose what I'm going to do. Any tips because I'd really like to be able to fight.

Mostly practice, if you do it more often it won't be such a big deal for you.

Also, don't be afraid to lose. It can often be more helpful then winning if you learn something from the fight.

Practice, practice, practice. The more you do it, the more it becomes almost second nature and the easier it will become.

These jitters are a main reason I don't try to fight very much outside defending. In this case 'jitters' is another word for 'hands shaking so bad I can't type for a half hour' and 'sweating like a pig' and 'getting dizzy' and 'brain freezing up so I can only remember two abilities I have' though I've seen that other people seem to enjoy all that, but for me, it's pretty horrible feeling. laugh.gif

It's like when I taste something gross and someone says, "It's an acquired taste, if you keep eating it, you'll start to like it." No thanks! laugh.gif Eating something nasty over and over with the hopes it'll eventually stop tasting so nasty isn't very awesome, IMO.

Course, half of my problem is that I honestly have no idea what's happening during a fight. None. Even with a system that has all sorts of colors and what-not, once the battle spam starts happening, it's just a wall of scrolling text I can't keep up with and the fact that I can't keep up with it adds to my panic. If it went slower, I might not freak out as much. But it doesn't work like that, so ah well.

That's what I keep hearing, but let me explain it better, need something to counter the rush, because said rush just takes away my thinking, I don't do anything tongue.gif

Once you get acquainted with your skills and win a few fights, it'll pass.

So there's no method to let it pass, except get my rear end beat? Got it!

Remember, concentrate on the moment. Feel, don't think. Trust your instincts. - Qui-Gon Jinn

*needs to make more aliases* button masher in the making!
Isuka2009-05-18 19:29:39
I used to be exactly like that. Shaking hands at all. It does go away, once you get a feel for battle. Give it time and spend some extra time making your button layout as simple as possible.

I always laugh, though, because I remember when I used to get those jitters in Aetolia with my Paladin. They're the same jitters I got the first time I was forced to defend myself from a neighbor with a baseball bat.
Razenth2009-05-18 19:30:12
The jitters I had at first disappeared when I got Treant, to be replaced by surges of awesome adrenaline.

The jitters just mean it matters to you!

I love the jitters.

Nothing like that burst of adrenaline that lets you instantly type in a sentence of combat text. The gitters do pass after a few fights.

Aye it does matter to me. Nobody really likes losing, but I'm okay with it...its not understanding what the censor.gif just hit me! Already been hit by a semi-truck, what's next?

When you lose that rush, combat stops being fun! Don't try to get rid of them, learn how to fight with the jitters. Maybe not the shaking hands, that could make things difficult.
Desitrus2009-05-18 20:57:01
Being jaded kills it in a hurry. Get jaded.
Yiro2009-05-18 21:02:22
Heh, no its not shaky hands, its just my mind locks up...group combat freezes this system I'm using too, so time to invest in a better one!

For remembering attacks -
make your aliases short and intuitive even if they dont seem to make sense at first. i use aliases like "hla" and "hra" to hit left arm and right arm. You can guess the other ones - hc, hh, hg, etc. For special attacks i spell out stuff like "ribs" or "neck". Then, get someone who isn't omni-trans demigod and have them spend a few hours in the Arena with you to get a feel for it.

For the combat scroll -
don't try to read everything. just pick out the important stuff. even in spammy combat, if you can just pick out your own attacks and the nasty stuff you're getting hit with you'll be alright. I tend to focus mainly on the letters on my status bar to see my own EQ and watch everything else with peripheral vision. DIAG if something feels strange to let your system take care of it.

For the jitters -
Have lots of everything you need. A crapton of herbs, 100+, 3 of every curative vial, and 5 of health/mana/bromides should be fine. 2 of poisons also if you're a warrior. if anything, it'll make you feel more secure with your system. try to use the jitters to your advantage - if you're getting steamrolled, just run and regroup... then divide and conquer. A bottle of Vitae might also really help you with the fear of losing XP. Maybe have a glass of ice water nearby and drink it to get rid of the dry mouth (That's what happens to me when I'm nervous, lol)

I'd say get yourself a good macro system rather than an alias system. Hitting a key is easier than remembering a command, and may help you in general.
