Since the beautiful system of aetherspace isn't used as often as it should be, and it's hard to get a crew together, can we have slave circuits, a la the Thrawn Trilogy? Not in the sense of slaving ships together though, but modules.
Imagine one person being able to pilot a ship with all modules slaved to the command chair. Each module would have a 10-20% loss in speed, because one person per station is always better. Maybe the artifacts may or may not counteract this. Maybe they could only slave one module of each type, maybe not.
Anyway, this would be an incredible boost to aetherspace usage.
Love,

Sounds good.
Zynna2009-06-19 18:56:09
I would love something like that.
Daganev2009-06-19 18:58:00
There would need to be sufficient advantage for someone who is a Combateer or Empath (as apposed to Commander)
Zynna2009-06-19 19:02:49
Perhaps have a bonus based on which specialization you are:
Commanders get better speed
Combateers get stronger hits on aetherbeasts
Empaths can heal the units more/more quickly

Yeah, they'd get to use thier specialization while in the captain's chair. A trans combateer in the captain's chair would still be beter than a non-spec master level person in a turret.
Unknown2009-06-19 19:16:58
I'd go combateer if they switched it to that. IMO, I'd like to see all specs getting crit rates, just combateers getting even better crit rates.

How exactly would a commander get a crit rate? Fly faster?
Dysolis2009-06-19 19:36:37
No they would have to do barrel rolls. Do a barrel roll!

FYI, there's an aetherspace committee if you want to forward ideas to them! There's a lot of interesting updates we want for aetherspace. Unfortunately, it got derailed by forging--but it's not forgotten!

Advanced flying maneuvers for commanders. Empaths understand the anatomy and weaknesses of aetherbeasts.
You can BS a RP reason for it. The OOC/real reason is that it would just make aetherhunting more fun.

how do I reach this committee?

We've decided to choose two applicants from each organization to be on
the aetherspace committee. The committee consists of Ixchilgal, Iytha,
Lendren, Viynain, Faragan, Shric, Talan and Kundu. Thanks for everyone
who expressed interest!
The purpose of this committee is to make travel, combat and trading in
aetherspace to be fun, balanced and lucrative. If interested, keep in
touch with the members of the committee and give them any feedback or
ideas that you think would be of interest to the committee.

This would definitely get me to start using my ship more - I hate how I can't go far far away with Gorgogs coming to crush the ship - but it would mean that we'd have to have more than one balance now and that'd mean complicatedness which then leads to having to write a mini-system for Aetherspace.
Still, I like. Please don't have us need another artifact/module for slaving to work.

I like the idea but I doubt it'll ever happen, mostly because the whole idea of aetherspace is supposed to encourage teamwork, and having a team is part of what makes it good when it works. We're focusing more on trying to make it a) interesting and rewarding enough, and b) balanced between the specializations enough, that forming a crew will be viable. This is probably the better approach because it's better to fix the real problem than the symptom, and also because any fix that preserves the intent of the designers is more likely to actually get done.

We could always make slaving require at least one more person so that you don't experience:
Overwhelmed by the information flooding your brain, you lose consciousness.
Having more than one person would make this happen less since the load is split between two people so you'd still drag someone along. Also, once you meet a minimum number of people (four maybe) then you won't experience this plus balance across the ship improves. Something like that.
I'm just throwing out ideas.

I am going to respectfully disagree with that entire statement. Remember the last fun thing that required cooperation? It was called miniatures. People don't use the system. If a player run committee makes the decision to not let single players use the system somewhat effectively, I'm going to be disappointed, and I don't see it getting used with much more frequency. Keep in mind we usually have 100 people on at once.

very constructive.
Ayisdra2009-06-20 02:24:37
If you let a player use all three modules from the chair, there be no real need to have three specializations as they wouldn't need/use a crew.
Shiri2009-06-20 02:42:17
Richter, miniatures are useless for reasons completely unrelated to the fact that they require cooperation (which they don't, really, they just take multiple people to make, all at seperate times.)
Conversely, aetherspace was used a bunch when XP from aetherhunting was bat insane.
