Manse Maps

I was thinking it might be nice to allow players to submit maps to the MAP system for their manses/aetherships. Basically either as a command or as a credit based thing, allow manse owners to submit a layout of their manse so that it works with the current MAP command and CONFIG MAPVIEW ON. Currently all manses just show the "This room has not been mapped" thing with mapview on, and some manses can get downright confusing. Deepnight, for instance, or certain semi-public aetherships.

Granted, if you're spending a lot of time in a given manse you'll learn the layout anyway, but I think it might make an interesting addition, and would encourage exploration in the case of public manses.

Thoughts, comments?

I agree, it'd be really nice to have maps of manses and aetherships. So far I've been using the Argon Mapper but it's not quite like having a map in-game.

I agree as well! I'd be willing to spend credits even on something like that.

Hell, I'd be willing to submit ASCII maps of my manse to whomever puts these things together so they wouldn't have to go through every manse and ship.

The ease with which a manse owner can change room connections makes this very impractical and is a large reason why it's not done. The submission of ascii maps would also not be compatible with the mapping system.

You could conceivably require a 250,000 gold deposit to make a map of your manse in whatever form it's in, and the addition of ANY room (or changing a connection) wipes it out (with an AGREE confirmation before it actually goes through) as a bit of a gold sink and discouragement from having to do it too often. Or something of the sort.

That's a decent idea actually. But what Raezon said is true, as I like to move exits around and such, sometimes. I've been using the argon mapper, but it's no real substitution for an in game map.

Perhaps at least having the ability to lock in your final manse design, and have it mapped?

Well, I'm sure you could make a map yourself. Just get a bookbinder to make a scroll (journal if your manse has multiple floors), put together a little map with brackets and hyphens, and place that at your fulcrux.

are lusteria's maps not generated on the fly? I had been under the impression that the mapper built the map for you on request by following paths.

Unfortunately, mapping isn't as simple as you may imagine. It's not possible to implement this without waaay too much work.
