So I've become an herbalist and I've notice now...Strip harvesting is crazy. Some areas are just torn up, I don't know if people do it on purpose or if it's just newbies who just don't know better. However are thinking about the problem for a bit I came up with an idea that might make it a little better. Make is a skill in herbs to Strip Harvest, and make it higher up so that newbies who don't know better don't go ripping out all of the herbs. The skill will make it so you're able to pull out all the herbs in the room if you have it active, and if you have it off it will leave at least one. Only people with the ability will be able to completely clear a room.

The problem is caused by the annual cycle more often than you'd expect. Nerf dormancy.

oOO..... you're an herbalist now! Can we commission you to replant the entire Inner Sea?

Yeah, I've already replanted a ton of rooms. Yeah I can do that.

Last time I was doing that, Veyrzhul spent about 100 of Celest's power trying to stop me while I just swam around replanting.

Very least I think balance should be removed from planting, and make it so you can replant herbs as along as you don't rift or pocketbelt them, or make them last for a day when you harvest so you can gather a bunch and replant.

The obvious solution must be to give growth and ward to Herbalists and Guardians.
(Oh, and give lastharvest to Herbalists.)
(Oh, and give lastharvest to Herbalists.)

I like your idea, but I also want to be able to replant places easier. Right now it's a complete pain to replant especially places like the sea that boast 100 rooms and like 15 rooms with plants and those are all low.
Furien2009-07-04 08:31:05
Seriously, it's dormancy.

I've been an herbalist for about a century and a half, and I still don't feel that "strip harvesting" is a serious problem. There are so many rooms to harvest at any one time, that it's never hard to just go somewhere else after you replant a few rooms. I don't waste hours replanting an entire area when replanting a dozen or so rooms will give me a decent supply.
Any herbalist who honestly takes all the plants for himself will quickly learn that he's killing his own source of income, unless someone consistently replants those areas for him!
(Lastharvest is never gonna happen, so you can stop saying it already. )

It seems to me that only one person is going to get a decent amount in those rooms that do have herbs. In either case I would still want to replant the basin so that there are herbs everywhere again. I've done it for a few areas already.

You can't win a fight with a game mechanic. Dormancy always wins.

HELP DOMOTH BLESSINGS.
Look at Nature.
Also: Nature Guard got a buff. Can use it with powerstones now, and people with nature can't stripharvest it either.
With the right tools it is possible to win a fight with dormancy, now. There are other game mechanics.

Lastharvest!
Lastharvest?
Laaaaaaastharvest.
Last harvest harvest harharharvest!
I still think cities, or at least Herbalists, should get herb guard and or growth though. Everyone needs herbs, so increasing the ability for others to boost herb growth is a good thing IMO.
Also, I'm not entirely sure how dormancy works. Does it completely strip some rooms? I thought it only reduced the number of herbs in the room by 10 and stopped the growth.

Fail!
Yes, dormancy removes all the plants from most of the rooms. Guarding them keeps them from blowing away, of course.
Honestly, there are so many thousands of herbs you could be picking that you're just missing the boat if you're focusing so much on a couple that have dwindled a bit. Replant a few and move on.
