So, it struck me today that foreign travel has become illegal in Lusternia. Celest doesn't allow Magnagorans, and they're at war with the forests. The forests each explicitly ban everyone but rogues from their borders. This got me to thinking that it's about time for Lusternia to invent the passport.
Passports require a way for a government to authenticate a document that is not easily forged. This could be done by adding stamps. A stamp would be little more than a colored message on a letter or page in a book that prevents editing anything above it (or anything on the page, period). This would probably be easier than coding a formal passport system and give players room for their own unforeseen creative uses.

I dunno, Shiri, Chade, Ilyarin etc. might try to tax the stamps without representing us. WHAT'S NEXT, XAVIUS, WHAT IS NEXT!?
Edit: Also, Fain. Especially Fain.

I motion to secede!
(in seriousness though, it'd be a neat idea)

Would having a stamped passport really make the cities/communes let foreigners in, though? There still are probably other uses for the stamp.
Also, there's something to be said for the ability to forge passports, although it shouldn't be easy.

Those Queen-loving, tea-sipping, taxing without representing, bad teeth, funny accented mother ers.
Either way, it's a good idea.
Tervic2009-08-10 05:05:18
So clearly we need to start dumping Bookbinder products into the Sea of Despair.

Sure are a lot of bitter people in here. Looks like they should have some nice Indian tea and calm down.

Or just stop acknowledging his authority. Let's draft a Declaration.

It's only the communes that do that. The cities let eachother in all the time. Just now, I had a paladin teleport over to buy some keg refills.

Aye, in Syrii's wedding log, you'll note there was a Ninjakari we not only weren't ganking, but were being quite...well, not jovial, but respectful to despite her having shown up uninvited to a wedding between two aquamancers.
