Disney Buys Marvel Comics

Now, I'm more of a DC guy, and I don't really buy a lot of comics as I prefer things in graphic novel form, but still, this kinda pisses me off. I shudder to think of what Disney would do to the few Marvel characters I actually like

*weeps*

I think that about sums it up.

I remember reading the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when they first came out. As strange as it may seem now, it was a
dark, gritty, well written and very stylistic comic. Then they were bought out by Archie Comics.

(To be fair, I'm glad the creators made a mint from selling out! They deserved it! Pity no one remembers the original though...)

Those links are broken

Personally, I'm looking forward to the Wolverine vs Bambi comic series.

Speaking of comics being killed...

This came up a week or so ago when I was looking up True Blood on the internet... the actress playing the queen of Louisiana... will be playing Mary Jane in... SPIDER MAN ON BROADWAY

Seriously... who in their right mind comes up with a Spider Man musical....

The same people who come up with a Lord of the Rings musical.

None of that is worse than Legally Blonde the Musical!

Maybe we'll get some marvel characters in Kingdom Hearts : cos(60º)

I've always wondered how Wolverine might fair against Auron,

Or what would happen if King Pin hired Zidana, now captain of the Black Pearl, to kidnap Mary Jane Parker.

I grew up watching the DC and Marvel... %characterName%: The Animated Series and hate having what I learnt about the characters and their worlds contradicted all the time in newer works.

Yes, I know that's how books, comics, games, and movies sell to all the different markets with their cross media, cross dimensional, para-dime shifting logic... but it still annoys the crap out of me.

While I would have liked to have read the comics, I'm a stickler for wanting to start with the originals and work my way forward from there... working my way through all the reboots and alternates in published order... but I've no time to go through all of that, nor do I have the money to finance such an attempt.

EDIT: And yes, I also know that the animated series were in no way supposed to be apart of the comic continuity.

They are not going away. People are making too big of a deal. Disney said Marvel will function like Pixar. Marvel does their thing, Disney help distributes, Disney gets extra money.

Just to note... Disney has a tendency to come in and "add a little something" in order to get a bigger buck.

How many people know Disney is in the porn industry? 'and the company they bought A pay-per-view company was only showing action and comedies prior to Disney buying them up and deciding "we can get a bigger revenue by going porn"

There is also its control of Miramax Films, an "independant" film agency known for films so pornographic that many networks refuse to air them.

So yeah, I lost trust in Disney a long long time ago.

Gregori, I'm not sure why you think Miramax is all porn... but um ok.

I think people are taking this way out of proportion. I suggest taking a good look at this list.

I didn't once say Miramax is all porn.

You were mentioning Miramax in a negative way though. Miramax were responsible for some really amazing movies, and their willingness to push boundaries is why. Its quite true that Disney began to stifle them, but it's hardly a black mark against Disney's name for being associated with the company. Oh no! Disney bought out the company that gave us ...Pulp Fiction... we should all boycott Disney now or maybe their movies will improve?
