I wanna know if it's any good, or if it's bad. My family's considering switching, and it's kinda worrying me.
Help?
Help?

I've never had Comcast, but as a long-time player of WoW all I hear is people complaining about how bad it is... but on the other hand they have a catchy slogan.

The internet is alright. however if you want wireless you have to either buy the router (I paid about 50 for mine at home) or rent one for about 3 bucks a month from them. The month or so I used it before I went back to college was fine, I didn't get disconnected either.
cable does seem to have been giving my mother trouble with it going out one a week or so.
Phone I can't really say.

I've heard innumerable amounts of people bitch about how horrible Comcast is.
Lekius2009-09-19 23:29:22
I dunno...my house has had it for a while and it seems to work really well. Phone and internet both seem very stable and we rarely have any issues with either of them.

If you ever want to know what to expect when things go wrong, Google sucks. Like, Comcast sucks. It'll give you an idea of 1) how much the company cares, and 2) just how royally they can mess things up on a bad day.
This is an actual Google screenshot made by the actual Google algorithm. So many people are dissatisfied with their service that, after searching for information on Comcast, they start looking for another ISP. I'd say this is a horrible sign.

That can really be applied to any large company.

It doesn't. Go try it.

Comcast's actual service is fine. I have cable and internet from them. It's stable and has few issues. The real problem is if you do need customer service then it is pretty awful and it will be a while until anything gets done. A lot of the bitching if from when they had a bandwidth cap without telling anyone what it was or that it existed. It's 250 GB. They also have no tracking tool. So overall, good product, crummy customer service.

People were bitching about a 250GB cap?
Unknown2009-09-20 00:45:06
More that comcast never told anyone the cap existed. So people were exceeding it, or something was happening that made comcast think they exceeded it, and then comcast was coming down on them. However comcast wouldn't tell them what the cap was or provide any way for them to monitor their use with the same meter comcast was using to monitor them.

Ah, makes more sense.

To be fair, it's not just the total cap, but also the QoS throttling, although if you're one of the few who does hit 250GB per month, you'd probably be a little upset!
EDIT: Four minute ninja, woo. Never post and cook at the same time, people. It's dangerous.
Ardmore2009-09-20 00:52:17
If someone hits the 250GB cap they're more than likely doing something illegal
I barely hit my 60GB cap and I download movies left and right.

I have very little trouble with my Comcast Internet service. However, I just canceled the cable TV package today, saving me roughly $70 a month, and that's including the increase in the Internet service because I don't have a TV package to go with it.
Comcast's customer service, prices, options, and everything pretty much does suck. They've put thick bulletproof shields on their customer service desks, which tells me they should seriously be rethinking their business practices.

My boyfriend has been using comcast for around a year now and hasn't had any problems with it. He does all the online gaming crap and I've never heard him complain about the speed.. and he can download basically anything in 5 minutes...
Now that I think of it I think I may have him split his connection with me.

I have Comcast and I love it (I've have had it on and off for the past 10 years in several different states and houses), I've never had any problems.
I just got fiberoptic from them for $30 a month and it runs at 10+ mbps, which is supa nice. I also love love love that there is no contract and no cancellation fees. With most other services you're stuck with them for 2 years whether you like it or not. Bleh. I hardly ever have connection problems and if I do, they usually fix it really quick. I've never had problems with the customer service either... they've always been quite helpful and the installers are extremely helpful as well. Had one installer spend about an hour drilling holes in my house and wiring the cable underneath so that I could hook up my router in my living room, for free. Had another spend 30 minutes helping me get my router to work properly (even though it was technically a "my problem" thing and I told him he could go.)
So anyway, I highly recommend comcast myself.
