I remember about a year or so ago, I was reading about a very interesting occurence that had occurred in WOW, which I am sure many of you were aware of, that is, the spread of a disease from a boss that a few naughty players began to spread around the world, leading to a literal pandemic that their GMs had to scramble to control.
For those that wish to read about it themselves.
Anyhow, the article I read actually had to do with some researchers who wanted to model actual disease spread using MMOs as a societal model to predict how the spread would occur in real life- Cool, huh? Any I hear of a positive thing to tell all the mommies out their about video games, I get happy, especially when science is involved. anyhow, to make a long story short, I would LOVE to see the introduction a plague to Lusternia, complete with spread and everything. Obviously there is a million variations on this you could do, like, say, call it a type of thing born of taint, and then we'll have all sorts of Magnagorans running to infect themselves and others, and Celestians trying to close borders to prevent spread. I suppose all I really care about is the idea of a disease that would spread by simple interaction with people, something that nobody would really know they had until it's to late. From there, throw in gruesome tumors, a semi-permanent modifier to all says, whatever. Even make the disease start to drain your stats. Then we can watch as the Basin flips, people hide in their manses, whatever.
This would also be a prime way to bring the event to everyone, not just the people that actually want to get involved. I mean, gingerbread men are one thing, but a disease? I know I would be meetng with everyone I could to try to find a cure, and I think we'd see huge city/commune co-operation, including a great way to involve the younger players with the big ones. Your world shattering critical hits won't do much against a virus, now will it?

Because not enough people in Lusternia grasp the concept of epidemic control and quarantine procedure. *eyetwitch*

You're kidding me, I was preempted? Of all the lousy, rotten.... Curse you Omniscient divine!
Oh well, even so, I'm glad it was done, even as I'm sorry I missed it. I take it that it really didn't go well? What did it do?

I actually don't think I was around for its full effects to happen, but it's a side effect of the Soulforge. The Aurawarp Plague. If memory serves, it caused random afflictions periodically. But I'm not entirely certain on that. I know that for a while no one was allowed to linger at the Pool of Stars, and we had to see healers if we got it until we tracked it down to Contagion and kicked his

It didn't cause random afflictions. What it caused was a deadlier version of the aurawarp that exists now, i.e shut off curing for extremely long periods of time after a while, and was uncurable except by healer, and was contagious.
And Mag was immune to it so they had a hilariously one-sided fight against us where we were defeated singlehandedly by Silvanus' demesne.
At first it wasn't contagious by air alone, there was just a message telling players to BITE each other (it was voluntary), which they did largely for the lulz. There was some minor debate about that centring largely on whether it was against RP to have any self-control or not. Largely we just didn't get anything done until the event was over though.
It also still exists as the result of a quest that no one does.

More events for healers pls Let's have the plague that drains power from nexuses (like, we can even use it as a prerequisite for a Kethuru event!)

I would love for the plague to come back. Man I enjoyed that sooo much. :>
