Would it show the designs that person has made, or the designs in the cartels that person is trademaster for?
Unknown2009-11-19 01:12:25
Designs that they, personally, are able to make.
Unknown2009-11-19 01:41:31
Able to make and have made are different. Able to make includes the entire public catagory and all cartels, while have made are just the ones that you've submitted. I'm not sure which one you're suggesting?

I think he wants to be able to search for which Blacksmith can forge him that awesome sword of awesomeness.

Something similar to this has been suggested; I believe the idea is in an envoy report somewhere. Something similar:
1) Add a new skill, BOOKBIND CATALOGUE
This would be similar to CARTEL CATALOGUE, except the PUBLIC option would allow a bookbinder to bind automatically-updating catalogues for specific trades/skills.
Personally, I'd like to see this for public designs, so I don't have to waste a cook's time having them tell me every soup, cake, and platter they can make. Cartel designs seem a bit more iffy, given designs are often actually 'private', meaning intended for one person only.
For public designs, though, I'd love a catalogue.

That would be really useful. I wrote a tailoring book like that...or rather, started to. After doing robes, I decided it was waaaay too much work.
Unknown2009-11-19 02:02:52
I'd also love automatically updating catalogues too, but since this has already been envoyed, I figure the admin have made their final decision on them.
Personally, I just use a wiki to catalogue all of the designs (public and private) that I can make. Even if no one else sees it, it's easier to look up designs, copy-paste them, make a list, and send to customers via tell. I know a few other people have this too, but it takes a hefty amount of OCD to maintain.

I never said anything about 'have made'. That would be silly.

Ried asked for have made, and your apparently affirmative response was can make. Hence me asking for clarification.

Iytha would need to be able to agree or disagree (perhaps by being present), because some crafters intentionally don't publish their designs. I've had a few of mine plagiarized, which is already far too easy to do, and there's already no protections against it (as long as they make a minimal effort to rewrite a few words), so I don't publish mine. As described, this would let any bookbinder in the game can effortlessly help someone plagiarize the entire contents of any number of private cartels.
There's also a concern about all the designs that would be on those lists that are private for a particular customer, and thus shouldn't be visible to anyone else.

A solution to that would be to have the trademaster/owner of the cartel to disable some designs from being published, if any at all.
