This is a list of mechanics and objects that still exist in the game (hence, for instance, Colossi not being on this list), but which go almost entirely unused. I should clarify that this is mostly just for entertainment value and isn't really meant to make fun of the admins, except in the most good-natured way. I'm not seriously suggesting that anything be done about most of the items on this list, as many of them are just not worth fixing (though there are a few that could use addressing). Most of them don't matter at all, and a number of them are Achaean legacy code or things that have just been de-emphasized or turned out to be largely pointless. Anyway, here's my list.
Can you think of any other mechanics that are so obscure that even I've forgotten about them? Go ahead and post them.
- Karma curses.
- Teas.
- Furniture, apart from thrones.
- Time pieces, etchings, hell, all of Tinkering.
- Also, all of Dramatics except the debate afflictions and attitudes.
- And all of Bookbinding except scrolls.
- Disruption and curse scrolls.
- City-specific alchemy skills.
- Poisoned food.
- Enchanted wands. (Man, it seems like every tradeskill has at least one of these, except maybe herbalism.)
- That weird quest with the snakes in the Oleanvir that creates anatine.
- Hifarae, the Nature Reserve, basically all those cool, beautifully-designed areas with awesome honors quests that people did once when they came out but which there is absolutely no reason to ever visit again afterwards.
- This goes double for Aetherbubbles, except when they're being used for domoths.
- For that matter, most non-honors quests that don't generate power or commodities and that aren't corpse turn-ins. Except pilgrims, which I wish people would forget about or at least stop leading through the Pool.
- Trader Bob.
- Miniatures.
- Accessories for miniatures.
- Library annexes.
- Suspect limits.
- Vengeance. (Actually calling it, not just suspect status. When is the last time you even saw an avatar of Avechna?)
- Starhymn.
- Nexus worlds. (They don't really do anything anymore. They're just kind of... there.)
- Hunting. (The skillset, that is.)
- Aethership ramheads.
- Auronidion. (I was never entirely sure what this was. I don't think you can even get it anymore, but I still have some in my rift.)
- Nexus rally.
- Nexus psifield. (I think this one was forgotten about the second it was introduced.)
- Clubs and polearms.
- Leather armor, scale mail, and chain mail.
- Buckler and kite shields, and possibly some other types that I can't even find named anywhere.
- Batting. (The ridiculously expensive thing tailors can do to make leather armor proofable. You know, that armor type that nobody uses?)
- Battlechess. (What's not to like about a chess game where after every attack you have to run around in circles for 3 minutes?)
- The official AFK policy (see HELP AFK, lol).
- Ratting and weeviling.
- Sewers, except as an access point to Muud.
- For that matter, Duum. You know, the place you're actually supposed to get to Muud through?
- Banks.
- Enchanted portraits. And portraitlistening, perhaps the most useless skill in any skillset in the game.
- Gluttony, healthleech, loneliness, vertigo, dysentery, vomiting, crotamine, and...
- Bulemia. (No, I am not making this up. But would you know if I was?)
- Rooftops.
- The nine levels of burrowing. (Seriously, why?)
- Artifact vials.
- 1v1 combat.

- Furniture, apart from thrones.
Furniture is alive and well in Glomdoring. At least, that's 90% of my work, people from there. I have plenty of orders for beds, cabinets, racks, and chests. Largetables, not so much. - Starhymn.
There's nothing wrong with Starhymn, it just needs work. - Nexus psifield. (I think this one was forgotten about the second it was introduced.)
Yeah, about that... this one got me in trouble.
Xavius2010-01-14 05:34:45
I disagree with a lot of those! I make heavy use of teas, my bards live and die by Tempo, love sorcelglass, just finished making a half keg of holy water, I <3 nexus worlds for 21-40 bashing, have almost bonded a Trader Bob lute, and really think that Vusilk is going to do a better job with Starhymn envoy than her crappy predecessors.
Razenth2010-01-14 05:35:00
I drink tea! Green is nice. Paralysis protection ftw. And cabinets. My god, they can save you so much money, especially if you have some uber robes. A bunch of quests are now part of Epic quests too, so they get done. Ironically, Hifarae is one of them.
But back to stuff that time forgot! Um... how about the eight (?) levels of mountains? Why admin WHY...

- Furniture, apart from thrones.
Weapon racks are great - Hifarae
Great gold. Also Seren/Glom epic quest - This goes double for Aetherbubbles, except when they're being used for domoths.
And Harmony events - Trader Bob.
LIES. - Vengeance. (Actually calling it, not just suspect status. When is the last time you even saw an avatar of Avechna?)
When Azoth got owned - Nexus worlds. (They don't really do anything anymore. They're just kind of... there.)
Hallifax - Battlechess. (What's not to like about a chess game where after every attack you have to run around in circles for 3 minutes?)
I have a use - For that matter, Duum. You know, the place you're actually supposed to get to Muud through?
Great gold
Just picked out ones that affect me directly.
Shaddus2010-01-14 05:37:19
Suddenly knows who Xavius' alt is.
Anyway, yeah. Just because you don't use something that doesn't make it crappy. Some stuff does need work though, like Starhymn and Tinkering.
I'm also of the opinion that the Sentinels need to come out with a Polearm spec. Just sayin'.

Oh, sorry, 90% of Tinkering then.
(What the heck is sorcelglass? It's def. not on this list because I don't even know what it is.)

Bookbinding that gives vials/bottles a new appearance.
Razenth2010-01-14 05:38:42
Do people do a lot of plays?

It is the way bookbinders can make vial and bottle decay times double.
Xavius2010-01-14 05:39:07
Don't forget doubling the decay time! Screw the pretty, I want vials that will last until November.
Razenth2010-01-14 05:39:50
But is it cost efficient....?

If you're willing to forgo pretty, then yes.
Zallafar2010-01-14 05:41:27
I think having less often visited areas is great. It's neat to explore some relatively obscure areas. So I'm happy with Aetherbubbles and other unpopular areas.
I use tea in combat regularly.

Not really, but it's nice. I can design all of the ivory and obsidian vials of the wark I can handle, and my vials look awesome. It's mostly for aesthetics.
Razenth2010-01-14 05:42:27
I mean, is one sorcelglass scroll cheaper than one vial.
Haha nexus guardians. Nice idea, bad execution.
Also, seduction. I do not remember when anyone seduced any denizen.

I miss when Starhymn was OP. Or at least supposedly.

The combined cost of one-fifth of a magic scroll plus the cheapest sorcelglass designs is cheaper than making a second vial, yes. I had the turtleshell vial designed for exactly that purpose.

A vial is five gemstones. A sorcelglass scroll requires a bar of gold, a strip of leather, some magic ink, and whatever commodities the design requires. Lets say for a point of whatever we say it requires five gems, the same as a regular vial.
you can have a five gem vial, or you can have a ten gem, gold, leather, magicink vial that looks nice and lasts twice as long.
