Ever since Hallifax and the Aeromancers were announced, I knew I wanted to join both organizations. The Solstice event provided me with the credits to do so, but I am beginning to have second thoughts. I have read logs of other people using telepathy, but they don't seem to help. I have tried stacking herb cures, keeping my opponents off balance (well, I -try- to), and using a crap load of illusions. None of these methods work and it seems as though telepathy isn't going to take me anywhere. Any suggestions? Comments?

I don't see any instance in your recent log of you using phantasms - wounds, claws, phantom and reality are all worthwhile abilities that you need to incorporate into your offense. You can't just psyvamp someone repeatedly and expect to sap all of their ego, you have to force them to sip health, mana, etc. Maybe throw some mindbursts to facilitate that.
And the only telepathy combo you used was stupidity/paralysis/psyvamp. Telepathy has a lot more abilities than that! Recklessness/addiction is a great combo for keeping their ego down. Phobia/amblifyphobia has applications too, as do hallucinations and epilepsy (though your thunderbird can take care of that).

Bolded part 1: I don't have either of those.
Bolded part 2: Are you sure you have read my logs? One of my combos is to give the person addiction and then dominate them into sipping mana....

Okay, now I see it, but you only did it once as far as I can tell with a search.
Aeromancy is a real dud when it comes to offense, but a lot of us are hoping to change that. It might take awhile though.

Claws is very useful and annoying.

You think it's annoying now? I miss the good old days when claws would tick through fleshstone...

Forcing sip will very rarely work, because the person should almost always be off sip balance.
Use less psyvamp, more mindblast.
You can use illusions (WEAVE ILLUSION) while off psionic balance. Do it. A lot.

Let me go get my notes.
Combos:
Stupidity + addiction
Deadening + stupidity
Deadening + paralysis
Recklessness + stupidity
Recklessness + addiction
Phobia + AmplifyPhobia
All of those are followed by psyvamp
Then I had an alias that did this:
Enable trigger for egoscanning
EgoScan + Stupidity
Trigger would then check their ego, if < 50%, mindburst, else psyvamp.
Get claws. Get reality.
Weave illusions every time you're on non-psi equilibrium. Don't illusion afflictions, most systems are just going to shrug that off, I recommend things like:
weave illusion You eat a plug of coltsfoot.
weave illusion You focus your mind on curing mental maladies.
weave illusion You take a sip from a (ruby|garnet|sapphire|jade|etc) vial.
weave illusion You have been slain by Dynami.
Telepathy is nothing short of broken if you do it right, but you fail pretty miserably otherwise.

Not one of those illusions would do anything to me.
Razenth2010-02-04 18:16:35
@Kyriel: You'd be surprised what illusions work. Run into one of the Mag's battery of tendon+ecto+gods else know what and you'll see whose system gets fooled by who rubs cleanse. And trust me, it's a lot of people.

Me either, but they do work on some people, which is the point.

Okay... those illusions won't work on probably 70% of the playerbase.
I'd recommend something that would work on AG or Treant, to catch as many in the net as possible.
Unknown2010-02-04 18:27:48
ARE there illusions that work on Treant? Also, "You have been slain by *" breaks AG, last I checked.
Shamarah2010-02-04 18:27:48
Ideally what you want with illusions is to create illusions of things that you theoretically could be actually giving, so that you can't actually proof a system against those illusions. For instance, afflictions from Phantom, or stupidity symptom lines. Of course, things like slitlock illusions are totally devastating if the system isn't proofed against them, but are useless if it is. It's worth giving the stock system-ruiner illusions a try (slitlock, choke, sap, you have been slain, pyro amputate, etc) just to see if you get lucky and they work. However, if not, you'll have to fall back on these other things that can't be so easily proofed against.

Hrm haven't seen that illusion in a combat situation but Munsia and Vathael were throwing it around at the Eternal Flame and it did nothing to me ...
Atellus2010-02-04 18:34:40
You do not want to illusion things that are initiated by the target (such as eating an herb or focusing) as any decent client will trivially guard against such things.
Affliction lines are far better as long as they make sense for the situation and are part of a specific combo. A common strategy is forcing them to use a cure so you will gain a small duration boost for the real affliction that follows. This type of thing is a lot harder/impossible to guard against in a system.
Just tossing out random illusions at random times is not going to do much of anything for you.
I once saw a hilarious illusion of a well known top tier fighter entering the room which caused the enemy to flee for a bit. Perhaps not useful but it was funny.

The you have been slain line doesn't really do anything anymore to my knowledge except make people that use Catarin's system jump 3 times. It doesn't effect AG anymore, but back in the day it used to reset the sipper or some such if I remember correctly. I used to use it on my bard. No cure line illusions such as "You aren't such a complete idiot anymore." or even coupled with the associated cure like:
You focus your mind intently on curing your mental maladies.
You aren't such a complete idiot anymore.
I have thought of a way to perhaps get around this but haven't tested it yet so in all, such illusions (generally) won't or shouldn't work due to checks if you actually did try to use that cure or not, but there are some exceptions to this which I'll let you find out for yourself! Warrior/Monk wound illusions don't work on some people due to damage checks but again there are some ways to get around this. Random poison illusions don't generally work either, such as "Hmmmm. Why must everything be so difficult to figure out?" On the other hand, however, to get the same effect you could use an illusion from glamours such as "Estarra weaves a glamour of radiant prismatic colours, dazzling you with a burst of vibrant orange hues." though I don't recommend using Estarra's name in a combat illusion. This is the colourburst affliction for stupidity. Paralysis/Stun/any form of "prone" illusions don't work to a degree if, for example, your opponent isn't "prone" with the p on the prompt.

A simple but useful suggestion is to make sure you psyvamp first in any addiction combo you use.... Normally this makes them sip before tracking addiction and results in a long sip balance for the opening combo... Which if used well can give you a chance to overcome them.

Well, personally, my system has a "mage mode" and while in that mode it will reject any lines that I haven't marked as being deliverable by mages. Of course I'm the only one who has my system and illusioning colourburst would work fine on people who don't have this sort of thing coded into theirs, which from what you're saying I guess most frequently used systems don't.
Vathael2010-02-05 03:46:54
They don't, no, only person I've heard of having something similar to that was Forren and now you.
