Howdy!! Im seeking someone who will (from what I hear) mold themselves to a forge and forge me a 220 speed tahto. I hear its unlikely, but I might as well throw it out there for some bored forgers to think about..
I mean.. Sure its "Possible" though however "Unlikely", it should be equal to two one handed kata weapons that I hear are not so rare for 110 speeds.. 220 tahtos Have to be out there somewhere, even though I have never heard of one yet!!!
So... Any takers? Heh... Send me a pm if your interested about taking it up / and about how much im paying. Thanks!!

From what I've heard, "unlikely" is a bit of a weak word for it. Good luck, though!

Screw it, let him have his dream.
Meanwhile, please implement tempering for kata weapons.

1 in 14348907 forges will produce a 220 speed tahto.
I know if I ever had one of these, I would not be charging anything less than 500 credits for it.

Heh, Im willing to pay a nice price
Yes I shall dream! I also dream of becoming the the Glory Divined Emporer of this Planet (irl), so a 220 tahto is a much closer dream then that
Nah no tempering kata weapons, then everyone would have mad tahto's and what would be the fun in that?

The way forging works, 110 speed one-handers are ridiculously more likely than 220 speed two-handers. 110-ers are already pretty difficult to forge. There has never been a 220. The closest I've heard of is some 218s, which supposedly have no advantage over a 216 anyway.
And those 218s were owned by Revan and Narsrim respectively, I believe, at several hundred credits each. Handed down to other guildmembers, who should probably still have them but are probably inactive.

If someone lets one of those decay, they should be enemied to the forging gods on principle.
But, to get a 220, your best bet would be to go knight, buy a mallet, and do it yourself. You will forge until the universe has forgotten your name.
This would probably be cheaper than paying what the effort would be worth to a current forger.

If you listen closely, you can hear the footsteps of forgers scurrying away, cowering in their manses and playing afk whenever a monk says 'can you forge for me'

I tell them that I've dropped forging for calligraphy.
Mirami2010-05-02 02:25:48
I once forged Tahtos.
I never got higher than 208. Granted, I didn't have a mallet, but I can't IMAGINE ever getting a 215, even with a mallet.

If I was still a forger I'd afk-forge every night for you.
And if I ever got it I'd be willing to sell it to you for 2000 credits.
But I'm not and I won't.

This is quite possibly the most accurate thing you've ever said.
QFT all over the place.

Anyone know offhand how much time it takes for a faeling with a mallet to craft a tahto? I'm tempted to have a go at making my own %!$@ tahto.

If Rika's number is accurate and it only takes a minute per forging then you can expect to forge ~239 148.45 hours or ~9 964.5 days so your time is probably better spent elsewhere. Not to mention all the steel or powerstones you would consume!
I don't know how long it takes to forge though.
Eldanien2010-05-02 14:11:40
I was expecting somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-30 seconds. And I mathed it out, and realize the end result is years... but I was considering a stint as a knight anyhow by way of comparison to monkness.
Though I really would like to get a more accurate idea. I'd seriously consider being a manse hermit for a few months for a chance at my dream tahto

Razenth2010-05-03 03:26:33
Hey, with Rael's numbers, if you could get 27 forgers together (lol unlikely) and get them to forge the time equivalent of an entire year (lol more unlikely) you might get one 220 tahto!

The problem with becoming a manse hermit is that, in order to improve the process so you don't starve to death or burn through coal because you were sleeping, you need a character who is above, what is it again?, 80.
On the topic at hand, however, I would probably be willing to consider this myself since I neither bash or fight anymore, but I just don't think it would be worth the time. There is no problem with dreaming about having these sorts of things, but you're seriously gonna need a really, really, really good friend willing to sacrifice hours upon hours of their time so that you can have what you want. Ultimately, you may wind up settling for whatever you can get that is close to 220, perhaps anything above 215? Ooh, and if you find someone willing to hook you up tell them to come talk to me and I'll give them the most up-to-date version of my Forgecraft plugin.
PS: Forging speed isn't a fixed thing. Character race determines how long it takes. Higher limb balance recovery equals faster forging. Or it used to. Not sure if that has changed. Has it?
Kelly2010-05-03 15:13:55
I'm just convinced that one day I'll get lucky, and the world will hail me as the greatest mortal to forge in the Basin. I'll never have to rat to earn my dinner again.
And then I wake up.
And then I wake up.
Rael2010-05-03 18:05:57
With the number of credits needed to buy a mallet, learn forging, buy a personal manse forge, buy powerstones, change race, etc. it sounds like you're better off buying a rune, waiting for tempering changes, praying for a bug or hell to freeze over. It'll probably come sooner than this million dollar/hour tahto!
Eldanien2010-05-03 19:05:51
Currently faeling, already got access to a manse forge, already interested in trying Knight, including Forging for Masterarmour. All I'd need that I wasn't already considering is the mallet.
The question is whether spending the time would be worth it, and that's a judgement/insanity call. Maybe forging the masterarmour will tell me if I've got the stomach for it.
