Wellington police spokeswoman Victoria Evans said the man's body was found by a cleaner at Reading Cinemas on Courtenay Place shortly before 8.30pm.

The man had attended a 6pm screening of the film, the latest installment in the supernatural Twilight franchise, which revolves around a love triangle between human girl Bella, vampire Edward Cullen and werewolf Jacob Black.

At a press conference this evening, police said the man's death was not suspicious and he had no obvious injuries.

The man was slumped in his seat, and the cleaner thought he was asleep.

It was believed he was at the movie by himself, Ms Evans said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Miller said the man had been informally identified, but police had not yet located his family.

The man lived in Wellington but had no fixed address, Mr Miller said.

Mr Miller said a scene examination was being carried out today, and a post-mortem examination would be conducted tomorrow.

The theatre where he was found will remain closed till the scene exam is finished.

The movie is the latest in the smash-hit film series based on the books by Stephenie Meyer. It raked in US$161 million (NZ$233m) worldwide in its first five days.

Worse than twilight? Please, the only reason Twilight is popular is because of that guy with the abs. It sure as hell isn't the gripping story or the acting.

Not going to argue about the quality of twilight, but I can tell you didn't see Airbender, because if you did there would be no question that Airbender was worse. I can't even comprehend how Shyamalan manged to squeeze out such a massive turd that was this movie.

What was wrong with Airbender, aside from the thick coat of whitewash?

Please believe me when i say everything. There is not one thing that Shyamalan did right with Last Airbender. I went to the midnight showing and the audience was applauding people when they left the theatre... At least some people liked Eclipse...

Terrible acting, terrible dialogue, no character development, way too much exposition. If I hadn't been a fan of the series, I would have had very little idea what was going on, the way it jumped around at some points. The entire thing felt like it was made by a fan trying to fit in a lot of their favorite parts. Some of the scene's I just can't do justice in how bad they were.

You also forgot to mention how everything was explained to us rather than things happening. Also the general perversion of the ideology behind the series in general and also how flourishy all the martial arts was before any bending actually happened. It made me really sad that I couldn't get my money back...

In short, don't spend money to watch the film, illegally download it!

There was scene I really liked though.

Mine are getting there with repeated gym-action, but I don't like the bit right where they meet the legs, there. It's all... segmented.

I was also hearing about how they decided to change all the pronunciations of the names from the cartoon.

This. One of the worst parts for me was the fact that they didn't build up or focus on Yue much at all, so when she died, there was no chance or reason to feel emotional about it. And don't even get me started on poor Sokka. I am disappoint.

@Shiri - They pronounced Sokka like "Soh-kah" and Aang was pronounced "Ong." Katara couldn't even pronounce Avatar correctly.

Not surprised. He's flubbed the past several movies IMHO.
