Fai Bureaucracy!

Okay, this started as a semi-joke in the Quotes thread, but I think it's a bit novel (bad pun).

Hallifaxians, countrymen, lend me your paper!

Why don't we keep paper trails and send official documents in triplicate, along with keeping archival records? We have the largest bookbinder populace in the basin, frothing at the mouth for us to release the floodgates of scrolls. Half the fun in bureaucracy is the paperwork, shuffling of it between departments, etc. I wanna see people weeping with frustration as they file six different forms to the proper offices for unenemying! (Surely nobody would screw with Hallifax again if they faced such a daunting feat)

Jokes aside, I think it would be a great RP tweak, and make Hallifax's environment even richer than it already is. It was pointed out that funding for it may be an issue. I'd propose that the 'processing fees' for official paperwork fall at the hands of the person(s) doing the filing in the first place.

(Plus, as a bit of a gimmick we could probably get away with publishing regular 'Availability of Information' compilations as scholarly works.)

All of Halli's "paperwork" is done on logic crystals now. And bookbinders can't make them. dry.gif

I love this idea. I'm surprised it doesn't happen already!

Do it, powers-that-be.
Unknown2010-09-13 22:01:41
Why did this get necro'd? Don't do it. "Lulz paperworks" is incredibly unfunny. If Hallifax is going to do paperwork do it for the sake of efficiency and record keeping, the reason it exists within the real world. If you do it for the joke you're going to be inbetween that guy who asks if you're working hard or hardly working and motivational posters.

Sounds like somebody's got a case of the Mondays!

You don't realize how much the Mondays itch.

No... just no...

If we can create the record discs with a copy function then fine, otherwise no except through emotes.

The other issue being that it just becomes bloat unless you have everything in an omnibuses or tomes. I really want filling cabinets sad.gif and the option to construct bookshelves in a city... unless I've forgotten some way for the city libraries to have minister only archives that have no affect on the greater library system.

also I thought the logic crystals were more for computation analogous to a cpu, with data storage being something else and the discs being removable storage media.

I used plenty of pre-formatted forms during my tenure as Trade Minister. For example...

Trade and Revenue Report for Hallifax Fiscal Year ending 269 CE
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
Presiding Minister: Tekora Freewind
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
Current Aides: Shedrin Skyplume, Ushaara
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
Report Synopsis: Once again, explosive demand for raw gem supplies
has carried profit margins to record-breaking numbers, shattering
last year's records with over 700,000 gold sovereigns procured for
the city this year.

Additionally, preventive measures taken early last year to alleviate
the stress on the raw gem market have been successful in curtailing
private sector demand and restored stability to the volatile market.
+----------------------------------------------------------------------+
Market Forecast: Demand for dwarven commodities remains strong, with
Steel, Iron and Silver growing in demand over the past year as trends
begin to swing away from the unnecessary consumption of raw and cut
gems. It can be expected that this trend will continue in the coming
months and years, with designers and merchants seeking to alleve
costs by replacing gems with metals or other commodities with less
value. The Ministry of Trade will watch these trends closely and
adjust prices as necessary in order to maximize profits from this
approaching opportunity.

Formatting is one thing.

Posting the trade report, sending a letter to each of the board members and then putting a copy in the library is another.

Though having a collection of "official form" setups would be nice
Unknown2010-09-14 01:30:01
Pre-formatted forms are good. That's efficient and helpful.
