How do you have a fair fight?

How do you have a fair fight if your main kill method and trans/mythical skills are considered 'cheap/OP?' Just not use them? Ask my envoy to nerf them? ... switch to a less OP class?I believe in playing fairly and don't like being called out on these things when I'm just using the skills I worked hard to earn.

Woah, Nelly!

I'll go ahead an apologize for that. There was no calling you out on anything, and I'm also sorry if it felt that way. It's just severely frustrating that every time I fight a researcher, the reason I lose is 'cause of that damned diamond, heh.

I didn't mean to suggest that there was any problem in anything you did in that fight! I was honestly just ranting about the whole "I'm a researcher, so my passive shielding while I'm crucified really effs you up" thing.

However, I do think it's kind of silly for someone to complain about another person running around. Part of combat is holding someone down. If it wasn't, we wouldn't have timed instakills. I'm not about to stand still long enough for you to hit me with anorexia/aeon, put up your warps, or build rubies; it's not that I think these are OP or you shouldn't use them, it's just that running around until they're gone works.

(In hope that it doesn't cause a typical "lolchoke" response) It's similar to fighting a choke user. I'm not going to stand there and let you wail on me.

Honestly, the annoyance came from the facts I forgot to refill my liniment, your diamond makes me cry, and that little tell you sent me. When running around is the only way to survive, that's what I'm going to do.

I'm going to start out with a pair of quotes which i believe strongly define my outlook on fairness. (these may be paraphrased)

Fain, of the Red Masque says, "Life is not fair, Shaddus, no more for gods than it is for mortals."

Mr. Coger, Science Teacher says, "life's not fair, boys and girls. I'm sorry if you thought that it was."

now. first off, quit listening to idiots who complain about "fairness". all this means is that they want you to handicap yourself so they can beat you, which is retarded.

you paid for these skills, you worked to learn how to use them. don't let others make you think what you have done was not worthwhile.

secondly, they need to quit spending so much time denigrating your choice of skills and either learn to use theirs better or get better ones.

Okay smile.gif But this isn't the first time people have said something after fighting a Researcher, so it's not just you. I honestly wanted to know if I'm getting better at picking up combat cues instead of relying on powerful abilities (and I'll admit we have pretty nice synergy with our skills and Healing particularly).

I usually don't send those kinds of tells, but I was on a time limit and also getting frustrated from having to run around the arena. You're right that the only way to get rid of rubies/warp is to move away... just not so far!

I think I'll try out fighting without diamond for a while, to see how that changes things up.

Also thanks Shaddus smile.gif

For what it's worth, fair pure fights don't really exist in this day and age anyway. Involving yourself in the world of pk means you'll be exposed to people who have huge peens who have difficultly acknowledging when they lose and instead make excuses and insults. They also tend to be ungracious winners.

Btw, pking is all about whoring something, so no need to feel bad or handicap yourself out of some sort of e-honour.

It's why I don't really believe in the concept of duels, incidentally. Arenas are cool.

This. Dear god, this.

1. Strip naked.

2. Disarm systems and put health vials away.

3. Newbie punch each other to death.

And if your opponent is lagged, you need to handicap yourself and put a delay on all your actions.

"Fairness? What is this, a duelling society?" <-- self-quoting on the topic of pvp in another mmo

There is no such thing as fair. Everything has a counter, and if you ain't strong then you got to be smart. Or rich.

"Less QQ, more pewpew" <-- another self-quote

This is probably the most succinct way to sum up exactly what I would have said here.

1) The item has it the other way around
2) The quote is way older than that
3) I do not claim to have thought it up, I merely claim to have said it on the topic of pvp in the past
4) Not the mmo I was talking about when quoting
Lehki2010-09-28 17:48:45
People will whine about anything they have trouble dealing with. I can't remember how many times people have told me I only beat them 'cus I used my demesne.

If you're just getting involved in combat, I wouldn't worry about the envoy metagame. Yes, Researchers are OP, and pretty dramatically so. Still, there are monks out there who haven't figured out how to lolmonk, so take some pride in the progress you've made. You took the initiative to get past the "I can't be a combatant" mental roadblock. Let other people cut down Geb in pursuit of balance. You worry about getting good so that it won't matter when the nerfs come down the chute.

You seriously had to bring my name into this?

You still upset you had to hearstop because you forgot to carry enough phlegmatic? Funny since you are a warrior, and have adrenaline and hunger. Also if you knew how to cycle your quicksilver along with adrenaline, you would have been a lot harder to stick aeon on. The unfortunate fact is that you did not even understand the basic abilities you had in Athletics. If you had, you could have easily escaped and got yourself some phlegmatic instead of heartstopping.
