So there are probably two new bard guilds coming out at some point.
Lusty Bard guilds usually have some theme that they are tied to.
Spiritsingers – spirits
Harbingers – bleeding
Cantors – aeon/angels
Cacophony – hunger/plague illnesses (pox, worms, scabies, epilepsy, and rigor mortis)
Speculation-
Gaudiguch – Maybe a mental aff or insanity theme
Halifax - possibly an aeon/temporal theme
So, that gets us to tertiary skills.
I think their introduction of new bard guilds would be a good opportunity to give bard archetypes a third choice in tertiary skills.
I would propose giving commune bards astrology and city bards hexes. I’m not sure that would be ideal though since Cantors might benefit more from astrology than hexes, caco might have too much synergy with hexes and it’s hard to say for sure about the new guilds until their skills are announced.
However, astrology abilities would mesh well enough with spiritsingers and harbingers skills as well as give them access to an additional kill method to balance out soulless in tarot that city bards get.
Alternately, there could be some in game event where the bard guilds were able to choose a third tert, possibly at a great cost to the guild. Like for example Cacophony could be offered the ability to learn hexes if they give up their insatiable hunger (and finally stop all the whining about their damn hunger attrition).
Thoughts?

I would propose that you stop spelling "skillz" instead of "skills". I might even read your post.

Yeah, agree with Faymar. Giving hexes and astrology to bards would also be too much for the sort of affliction things most bards like to do already (see the aurics). Being able to fling the classic locks of hexes would mesh so well with octave and aurics, IMO. Even astro's nerf spheres would mesh really overly well with some guild's nerfing (read writhing and potion balance slowdowns among others) song effects. I like the idea of the old suggestion of Aesthetics for bards, but good luck getting a brand new skill put through and balanced against the preexisting skills of four (six if you include the way future bards) guilds.
Bards need Glamours meshed better across the board, it works well with a few strategies and that's all, mostly because of having to chase two herb balances (earwort and faeleaf). I'm not exactly sure what changes could be made to the terts, but I don't think sticking one archetype's skills onto another is a good idea.

I like Faymar's idea!

I adore Glamours, but having to deal with blindness and deafness both is really annoying. At least a lot of it isn't totally ineffective against the blind.
While Astro could be fun to play with, I'm not sure how the intense study of the sky fits into bard guilds.

Of the wiccan ones I thought Healing fit better since "the healing power of music" is well established, we already have one healing interval, and the whole "support class" thing is still there in some of the help files. But I prefer the idea of a unique one like the one I wrote up a while ago. Estarra, I think, said that there isn't going to be a third tertiary, for what that's worth.

Aurawarp and bedevil with p5 and a bard's passive afflictions would be horrible to deal with. No thanks to bards with healing!

You know what would be totally awesome? Illuminati with Healing.
Asmodea2011-05-01 08:10:59
Personally I think any of the current skillsets wouldn't mesh well with Bards. Hexes is too affliction heavy, especially for cacophony since hexes can give direct plague afflictions. Healing as others have pointed out is too powerful when mixed with perfect fifth, astrology even a little as well when mixing meteor with perfect fifth. I would think a new tertiary would need to be created in order to give to bards, I always liked the sound of a gypsy magic or candle magic/incense theme.

Self-aggrandizing, egregious links ahoy: Aesthetics

I recall this thread with the admin asking for skillset ideas. I can't recall if it was related to the bards or not...
EDIT: Found the thread. It's interesting to see how many ideas in the thread have actually been implemented over time.

If this is not a "no third tertiary until later sometime" I'm cool with that. No third tertiary ever is absolutely horrible. Monks and Bards already have the least diversity.

The aetherbarbs idea could work for monks maybe, on a thematic level. Though it kinda reminds me of Rewiring from ToP.
And Aesthetics or the one where you used written Ae phrases for bards
