Well I was playing on my Imperian character a while back, and he's an engineer, so he can make cannons and flintlocks, so I was thinking, why not be able to make flintlocks and black powder in Lusternia? The Lusternians are smart enough, they figured out planar physics!

True, thing is, knight related classes can't use magic except Totems or Rituals. So, we don't have really any ranged attacks

Barely anyone does. TK Choke, Staves/cudgels, Rage/Terror, and Zap are all I can really think off of the top of my head.

Only Druids/Mages have a ranged attack, discounting some special Monk moves, which are more of 'gap-closers'. Giving everyone a ranged attack would make Lusternian stand-offs less stand-off-ish. You'd all just coordinate to aim at one person at a time and keep finding the ones without shields up.

In theroy, ranged weapons do exist in Lusternia, as the following quest item shows:
But no class can actually use bows.
CODE
pr bow
Once carefully crafted from the heartwood of a yew tree, this flexible bow is
smooth and elegant, and marble tan in colour. Earthy outlines of dancing leaves
had once been painted all along the length of the bow, but are now fading slowly
as the years pass. Rings of darker stains mark where the perished bowstring had
once been tied.

Freaking orc rabble can. However, the complexity of bows is beyond even the most disciplined and highly trained of knight guilds.
(However, dueling pistols would be fun!)

You guys have it all backwards. I have a gun that shoot sparkly bits at pigeons until they turn inside out. Gunpowder would be a step backwards for Hallifax.
See?
You point an onyx aetheric amplifier at a small baby pigeon, which lets loose a
cloud of sparkling motes that envelops him, scouring his flesh with tiny
pinprick bursts of energy.
A small baby pigeon screams in agony, as the sparkling energies tear him apart
from the inside out.
You have slain a small baby pigeon.

Magic is just one of the things science studies, since it's observable, repeatable, and potentially understandable.

Yes, exactly. I don't have a wand, though.

Paradigmatics has a ranged attack. It's a bit terrible, though.
It would be nifty if tinkers could make guns and forgers could make bows. Slings could be used to fire blank runestones. They'd do damage and bleeding at adjacent targets/people in the same room. Takes one functional arm and arm balance to load and another to fire.
