Can it be upgraded to allow more than one person to play at a slot machine?
Iosai2011-10-11 10:44:46
Not easily, as far as I know (I didn't code it), but I'm sure a city could buy more than one!
Shulamit2011-10-11 10:45:40
Yeah, basically...a slot parlour! Just have a bunch of them in a row. Like Vegas.
Sakr2011-10-11 10:49:30
As for the person that did code it, it is an addicting piece of work, thank you
Ssaliss2011-10-11 11:04:39
Do the cities get any kind of proceed from the slot machines? Or is it just a black hole?

Nope, but likewise the cities don't have to pay out winnings ;)
Ssaliss2011-10-11 11:22:40
Well, there goes my plans for a Las Vegas manse. Still, yay! Gold sink!
Sakr2011-10-11 11:31:31
ran a game 100 times already, 5k each, have been getting mostly bumblebees, and i've gotten 1 set of 3 skulls, and one set of 3 spiders, but most of the time i'd lose 2.5k or get my money back, no profit... It is pure luck right?
Sakr2011-10-11 11:31:52
and would this be able to be put in manses?
Raezon2011-10-11 17:16:51
More than one person can play at a single slot machine if they take turns. You can have more than one in the same room, though, for simultaneous play.

One last question then. As it stands, you have a 4% chance of getting a double, .8% chance of getting a triple. That said, after a hundred or so runs, they were mostly either double bumblebees, or triple bumblebees, or double dolphins. Rarely was there anything that made gold, with a double dragon happening twice, and a triple spider twice as well. Is it possible to get the initial bet returned in addition to the winnings? Otherwise it feels like 60% of the time you'll be losing money (double bumblebee or just 1 of each) and 20-30% of the time getting the initial bet back (triple bumblebee, double dolphin)...
Raezon2011-10-11 18:44:54
I don't want to talk about individual probabilities, but like real slot machines, some will lose and some will win big.

For the same reason that Blackjack is rigged, they can't just give away money.
Ssaliss2011-10-11 18:59:13
Yeah. House always wins in the end. It's just in the game.

Funny how that works!

BTW, slot machines in Lusternia are set up pretty much like RL slot machines (odds wise).
Rathan2011-10-11 19:23:45
I also won't speak to individual odds, since obviously I can't see the code, buuuut....

In my experience with Roulette, I know multiple times I have had things that statistically speaking should not happen. I don't know whether it's the random seed or *cough* other reasons *cough cough*, but I know gambling never pays off in IRE games.
Ssaliss2011-10-11 19:26:27
Statistics say that everything can happen; some things are just unlikely. Getting fifty green spins in a row is extremely unlikely, of course, but still possible.

More like MOST will lose some, few will win big. There is a reason a slot machine is known as the one armed bandit and responsible for the majority of casino revenue ;)

So, does it, like in real casinos, increase your chances of winning when the bet is small to lure you to make larger wagers? Or were you talking about 'fair' casinos :halo:

This is patently untrue. Those of us who have been around since you could gamble lessons will remember a time when several people literally went to omnitrans overnight by gambling lessons - from buying a single credit with gold. Someone (Richter, maybe?) bragged about it quite often.

I remember those days... i wish that can be brought back somewhat, at least for those who bought credits O.o

Anyhow, with roulette, I still stand by the reasoning that there is a kind of a probability pathway between green spins and that it isn't completely random to an extent. Sure, your guess can be wrong (had 5 greens in a row at one point... built an aversion to green rolls) but playing so far there are some numbers I still haven't seen.

Ooh, this Friday at around 12 pm (UTC +2) going to have a gambling day for 24 hours if anyone wants to join in Glomdoring, for fun. Was thinking about roulette, blackjack, maybe slots, and then finish off with gambling on wargames. Probably will ask some chef to make take out if we get a group going for this.
