I'll get the generic 500GB SATA HDD/optical drive sometime. Doesn't really matter for that part of it.

Just because I find it amusing, I'll post. My computer:

Dell Inspiron 600m.
1g ram
40g hard drive
Running #! instead of Fedora because I didn't feel like building Mudlet on it again.

Only one Monitor? At such a low resolution? Why? O.o

OMG! You run #!

Squee!!!

I'll share mine:

Pentium 4. Single core @ 2.8. Sucky 512MB RAM. Sucky 64MB Voodoo. Sucky 40GB HDD. Sucky 3G connection. (Albeit @ 7.2 Mbps.)

And guess what?

STATLER! Yay for Debian based distros.

The OP is actually what I'm planning on upgrading to. Currently, I'm running this:

Acer Travelmate 4230
Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.33 GHz
512 RAM
This has got a 125 GB drive in it if I remember correctly.

along with my "server" laptop for Minecraft and other such silly things, which runs on an HP Pavilion dv6000... has either a low-end Sempron or Turion core, can't remember right now and I don't feel like booting it up. All I know is Linux is lightning fast on it, and if the hardware wasn't on its last legs I'd still use it. I could probably actually just upgrade the RAM in my HP and it'd run like a charm, but I don't want to.

In any event; I haven't chosen a monitor yet (I don't own one >.> ) so I'm still figuring out what I'm doing for screen res/what I'll end up buying. That was just to put something there. Eventually I'll take advantage of Crossfire and dual monitor it up as well, I think. I've heard with this processor that people have managed to unlock the cores to five (but not quite managed six) so that kind of excites me.

I'm in a debate over water cooling and air cooling. My friend Pat said not to underestimate the power of a well-placed fan, though.

Water cooling is stupidly overpriced and not worth it. If you are overheating, get a second/third fan and buy a decent video card. That will mitigate -most- overheating issues.

But it is so awesome looking.

Mineral oil cooling still looks the coolest.

I saw a video on it once...

it's amazing, and a goal of mine for the future. :D

If you don't like noisy computers, water cooling is a nice option.
You can nice and silent CPU fans too, but water cooling is cool. :)
Vadi2012-04-12 09:16:42
60cmx40cm monitor (1920x1080 res, 1080p) LED-backlit ViewSonic monitor (with speakers, connected over HDMI, so it's only one cable - amazing!)

Asus-built nVidia GTX 560 video card (runs stuff on highest settings without a sweat)

i5 i2500k, quadcore CPU (does what it needs to, verily quickly)

8gb DDR3 ram (XMP enabled)

Intel 520 series 120GB SSD (best single upgrade possible)

gigabyte z68 chipset motherboard

Silencio case + silent after-market cooler = I cannot hear the fans, even though I'm sitting right beside the computer. No extra LEDs on the case either, so it's nice, quiet, black, and doesn't light up the whole room in the evening.

Ubuntu 64bit

New setup, love it!

Very awesome until I read that curse word.

"Ubuntu" - You should be shot :P

Ours is incredibly similar to Vadi's, Z68 motherboard, i5-2500K processor, 16 GB ram (don't know what XMP is), GTX-560 Ti graphics card, 120GB SSD (I agree these are awesome and make booting and loading things really quick). But with windows 7 and a noisier fan. I can recommend these bits, and it was about £750. Might be less for US/Canadia.
Unknown2012-04-12 11:46:50
750? Mine cost me 50 quid :P

Intel processors are overpriced.

But they are pretty nice.
