I've created a website that's keeping a record of who killed who in all of the IRE games that support the API used. The application is created with node.js and updates every 5 seconds. A Glicko rating system has been implemented to judge who is the best of the best. However, before your name is displayed on the ranked scoreboard, you need a total of atleast five records - which means the sum of kills and deaths.
I hope that this site will produce a new aspect of combat where everyone wants to get a good score at the end of the day. Obviously this application doesn't take into consideration if players are teaming or not, which means that some players might get really good scores.
Consider this phase a beta test and feel free to PM me requests of features you'd like to see on the site or if you notice any bugs and errors.

Neat...
But at the same time, oh god the e-peen, zerg & non-com murder.

Very neat, but I suggest you put in something to reduce the points of people who kill those that don't kill others.
That is, if X kills Y, and X has 20 kills, but Y has 0 kills, then X gains less ranking than if they had killed Z who had killed 5 others.
Same if X kills Y 20 times, but has killed no other players or few of any other players.

That's already implemented due to the Glicko rating that benefits the one who kills someone with higher rating. I've also put in a condition where if you have a much higher rating than the one you killed, you won't get any changes.

I used to be rank #22 and now I'm not on there at all. :(

There was a reset before the date that's stated on the site which says "has been up and running since..."

:( If only MKO did general death messages, instead of sending the regular ingame ones.

They only show the lines when someone dies to an NPC. Additionally they've added a "politics" feed. You should tell them to fix it though! ;)

They give player death messages. I just thought this required a general message, as I know Lusternia, and at least two of the other IRE muds have one message for pvp deaths, but MKO uses the ingame deathsight lines.

I've never seen a player vs player death on the MKO feed, but I suppose I've just missed them then. Making a general match for that would be a pain though. It'd be done best by just collecting all the messages. If someone has those, feel free to send them to me ;)

Is there any documentation on this API other than the (rather lack-lustre) PDF I found? For instance, exactly where do I send those GETs? I tried both ironrealms.com and lusternia.com, but both of'em answered with a 404...

This is a sort of re-creation of the KILLS (name) we used to have in the game, and it was removed to discourage the griefing meta-game it started (i.e., killing just to get your "score" up).
That aside, it'd be nice if there were perma-links you could use to bookmark the game of your choice or some way to look up people not in the top list, if there even are records that aren't listed.

Does it ignore arena deaths?
Unknown2012-05-14 16:33:07
@Zarquan: The "bookmark" feature will be available in the future and so will the ability to search for a specific player.
@Enyalida: Yes, it ignores arena deaths.

This is pretty cool.
Must farm noobs.

Yeaaah, this strikes me as a bad idea. Level 30s are already being killed. We really don't need more of an incentive for that to happen.

Sojiro, you greefer, you! :P
Unknown2012-05-15 11:57:05
Irony. I see it.
Kiradawea2012-05-15 13:30:27
Actually, thinking about it a bit more, I think it could work with an opt in type of system. So your score will only count if you fought against someone else who had opted in on the system, but killing a novice or non-combatant wouldn't score you any points, and thus remove the incentive to hunt them down for easy points.
Veyrzhul2012-05-15 14:35:46
Can't anyone with the coding knowledge happily create as many of such websites as they feel just to capture whatever information the live feed provides? Would you wanna opt in for all of those?
From what I gathered, only those with a low score to begin with have an incentive to hunt down noncoms for easy points; for all others, there is little to no benefit.
