'98 and JAVA. And my friend's using FreeBSD and JAVA, but I've never actually heard of FreeBSD. But he's making me write it down anyway. *peer*

I can't honestly say that I have heard of that client either.
Zolas2004-10-28 22:22:56
FreeBSD is an operating system, not a MUD client.

windows 98 and java. And I can still romp most zmudders out there in fighting (not on lust yet, cause I have no herbs, but meh.)

I humors me that all of you are arguing about which windows release is superior. I run KDE Debian (thats a graphical Linux Distro for those of you that dont know) and I run the java client off of mozilla (sometimes konqueror) And it always runs fine. I dont know why people complain about the java client so much it is stable and the hotkeying/triggering system is great. My box is a bit exsessive for lusternia. It is a 3.4 ghz pentium 4. But arguing about the quality of a machine for running a text based telnet game is silly. I have definatly played achaea via telnet on an old 486 runing X mandrake. If you can do that then the differnaces between windows ME and windows 98 is verry small (they both are unstable and slow).

well, ya, java is perfectly fine...but don't get into telnet. I hate telnet. With a passion.

Telnet does indeed suck.
In regards to the topic, I use WinXp and Zmud 7.05.
Although if any of you want a free (no need for cracking), dependable, easily acquirable mud client I recommend Gmud.
ohtaren2004-10-29 02:47:56
I didn't mean telnet was good. I never use it. I was just comenting that you realy dont need to have a super good machine to play a MUD.

Have you tried kmud?

I'm a XP user, and have zMUD 7.05. I actually find the mapper not too problematic when it comes to normal areas... but that bloody Inner Sea, it's going to keeeeeeeeel me!

XP and Java

At home I use Windows XP with Zmud. I LOVE the mapper in Zmud. My favorite thing to do is wander around mapping places where I haven't been. Except for New Celest. That place gave me a headache!
At work (whenever I'm without anything to do) I am on a Mac, so my options are limited. I used to use Rapscallion and liked it pretty well, but I had to reinstall it and the password no longer works. So I looked on the website to try to buy another license and the guy has quit working on Rapscallion. He provides a free serial number so you can supposedly use it for free, but the dang number won't work! And I can't find any contact info on the site for the developer. If anyone has found a workaround for this problem, I'd appreciate knowing it.
As it is now I'm stuck using the Lusternia client from the website and I can hardly function without a map. However, what is the most irritating thing is that you have to retype every command. Whatever you type should stay in the command line so you could hit enter and do the same thing again. Also, navigation using the keypad would be a blessing!
Zarquan: I was having a similar problem with my mapper and found that it was being caused by the weather changing. The mapper was trying to match the room but it was different than when I mapped it originally because of the weather being the first line of the description. There is a check box somewhere in the mapper options for "room description changes" or something to that effect. I checked that and I haven't had any problems with my map stalling out since then.

WinXP Pro and Zmud 7.04 (both warez). Would move to FreeBSD if I weren't addicted to games so much.

I don't touch computers who haven't at least windows 2k (if it has to be windows, I need it at least to be stable).
About clients, Mudmaster, Mudmaster 2k, Mushclient, ZMud and Wintin. It depends on what I am planning to do exactly.
And yes, W98 is more stable than many windows because it is the debugged version of W95 (wich was hell in a CD-Rom). For old computers, works much better than XP. In fact, XP and the infamous Home Edition tend to eat up all computer resources, so if the computer is old you can die of old age while trying to start your client.

Semi-stable
Win 2k with GMUD
My one complaint with the java client is that the triggers dont work well (for me, at least)
Unknown2004-11-14 01:49:09
Mac, X 10.1 or so, using Cantrip at the moment. But I really would like to find a better client. This one isn't fully fleshed out, dosen't have the greatest documentation, and my bloody triggers occasionally decide to delete themselves. If anyone knows an os x client that would be better, that would be super. Rapscallion is nice, but it isn't really OS X-ified all the way.

I'm trying Mush+pythong out. However there is one thing that I'd really really want but have only seen in one otherwise deficient client and that is proper prompt grabbing and treating it like a -prompt- and not just more text. Allow MS paint to explain:
What I see in Mush, zMud, tf, most everything:
What I want to see:
