I'm just going to come right out and say what all the rest of the ignorant americans bothering to read this thread are thinking...do you HAVE forests in Australia?? Every picture I've ever seen is either city, or that big ass rock out in the middle of nowhere...

Most of the north part is forest...we have a tiny population and a similar landmass and shape to the USA, and we haven't been here as long, so its not spoiled yet.

I live on a 90 mile or so strip of coast with ocean (and beautiful beaches) on one side, about 4 miles of suburbia, then heavily forested mountains...yes we have forest! Heh.

Though we're more likely to call it "The Bush".
Unknown2004-10-30 11:29:19
Even here in and around Sydney we have large chunks of national park which is majority open air forest. Back home up north there are massive amounts of rainforest. It's just generally not seen as a big tourist attraction so not widely advertised overseas.

Edit: Damn federal elections messing with my mind. And my grammar.

The Australian National Party probably would do a better job if they were Trees instead of politicians. Damn Liberals.

For all those out there who were confused, he meant National Parks.
Gwynn2004-10-30 12:10:33
I think he also meant to say "Which is" rather than "With is". Gee, I should be dlanod's personal translator. tongue.gif

Another from Perth here, does seem to be a quite a few tree hugging hippies in Oz huh!

On the other hand, calling any of Australia's hills "mountains" is a blatant aggrandisement. wink.gif

Yeah, and the Blue Mountains aren't blue either.

The look blue if you see them from the right place...the eucalyptus trees give off a gassy substance that makes a blue haze in the atmosphere.
Unknown2004-11-03 05:05:07
If I look out the window here they look blue, but they _aren't_ blue. It's all a big trick.
Unknown2004-11-04 01:48:19
Heyas,

Good to see so many Aussies! I'm in Melbourne though I was born in Sydney and lived in Brisbane through school.

Now, enough debunking the Blue Mountains, they are only called that to confuse the tourists. Don't let our little secrets out.

To any non-Australian: Come see our wonderful country with it's amazing BLUE mountains, thats right folks, BLUE mountains. And before you ask, yes there really are kangaroos hopping down every main street. Come and see for yourself, and don't forget to pack your cheque book and Amex.
Unknown2004-11-04 02:14:35
'nother Aussie here - and yea, I am a Serenwilder too! Odd trend.
IRL I spent 6 months just this year with Green Corps, working around a good deal of SE QLD in Conservation and Land Management training - bush regeneration, seed collecting, fencing, trackwork, animal surveys, etc. - and yeah, I should know. We gots a lot of good greenery up here. Rainforest, scrub, open woodlands.

I can think of at least one main street where this is the case. Damn Mareeba, giving the rest of Australia stereotypes.

I hail from South Australia, and can say with pride that I've never been a Forestal, either here or in Achaea. When the rest of my country-men (and women) will learn to join a real guild, I'll never know.

If by some silly chance I come to visit Aussie for two weeks. Is there anything a innocent little American who has never been outside of her state should watch out for, or go see in Sydney?
Gwynn2004-11-08 11:23:57
You need some locals to guide you. There's alot to see around Sydney, both in the city and around it.

If we have someone coming all the way from the US to Sydney, we'll just -have- to have a sydney meet.
Gwynn2004-11-08 11:26:34
By the way Humphrey, I just love your character! When I first saw a Tae'dae called Humphrey I thought to myself "Nah, has to just be a coincidence."

You'd better not wear pants, that would be sacreligeous to the Humphrey B. Bear name!
Unknown2004-11-08 17:02:17
You'll be glad to know Gwynn that Humphrey doesn't, and never will, wear pants! I gotta find me a Tailor that can make a big yellow tie with a bow, a straw hat and a tartan vest though, just to finish off the look. biggrin.gif

Unknown2004-11-08 23:34:29
Damn insane aussies, a shame their girls are so good looking and that accent...*sigh* Oz is too far away, miss it ever since my month long trip.
Ialie2004-11-09 01:48:04
Ah sounds like a fun place this, maybe I will have to visit sometime real soon. Like maybe within the next month or something. Wouldn't that be crazy!

God I'm insane
