Anyone know why my databases seem to keep dissapearing in zmud 5.55? Its getting rather anoyying. Any information on how to untilize databases in 5.55 would be helpfull thanks.

I had that problem too when I used these icky 5.xx versions years ago. I quickly dumped them and returned to my nice and stable 4.62 and decided that I didn't really need a database.
I think this 5.55 version is heavily bugged and I really would just kick it.

I've been using 5.55 for years, its free, I love it. I guess I'll just have to get inventive with a database then.
Niara2004-10-27 11:47:54
Uhm...free? I haven't checked recently but I am pretty sure the only free version of zmud is the old 3.62 or whatever.

5.55 has been free for years, cracked, really. It would just keep telling you that you had 27 or 28 times left to try it and never count down. Then they did something to one or a number of the copies going around so that they did expire. Obviously, Dag got lucky.

I wouldn't say he "got lucky" exactly. I'd say that cracked software is a bad thing, and it shouldn't be discussed on boards such as this.

If you get around to paying for zMUD and upgrade to 7.05, I'd be glad to help you out with scripting. Databases suck, though. I use data records and list variables, which are kinda like mini-databases.

Try to stop an Aussie using slang... pfft.

If it is a big issue, you could always ask around and see if anyone here has a spare instance of their zmud license they would be willing to loan you... is that pushing it, Zarguan? *peer* Zmud licenses are cheap, though, and you get three instances with them so you can use them on multiple computers in your home (hurrah, for there have been up to eight computers in my home over the past year and at least four mudders). For some reason, 7.05 seems quite buggy to me, but that's probably just my computer, it's fairly good as far as that goes.

Sharing licenses isn't pushing it, but you'd better really trust the person you give your ID to or you'll find yourself without a license some day as every geek on the Internet is trying to register using your number. smile.gif

I've only seen a few bugs in 7.05 and I've found workarounds for all of them so far. My only complaint is that zMUD is so darned sluggish on the more than 1000 triggers I use (not in Lusternia yet, though). I've considered switching to MushClient or some other system with a good external scripting language like Python, but I'm just too embedded in the scripting for zMUD to make it an easy switch now.

Heheh, I didn't say everyone would go for it. It is an option though.

The only problem I have had with 7.05 was in Imperian where someone was trying to help me set up this complicated system that checks to see if you have an affliction before healing it. Now, everytime I log in to Imperian I get a spam cycle of Stupity||eoe

Hmm, I've never found a version of 5.55 that expires if you have a clean install of it on your computer. I have found that if you install 7 and then instal 5.55 it counts down and expires, but if you completely uninstall 7 it doesn't. I got my version of 5.55 straight from the zuggsoft mirrors list. Its not cracked, just bugged. The only other places I've downloaded it from, or shown others where to download it is tucows.

I never crack software, cause I've had too many experiences of the crack messing up more than it helps.

So I guess my next question is, if I can't use zmud for this, is there a better system? I really need a client that has windows where you can type in yor aliases and triggers and not just make a list of #trigger (blah)(blah) in some file like wintintin did.

Thanks.

Have you tried MudMaster?
Unknown2004-10-27 19:34:55
MM2k was one of the first clients I tried. I even downloaded the source for the original MM to see if I could make my own client out of it. Ultimately, I didn't have time or patience to make my own and MM2k kinda sucks for what I was trying to do. Maybe I should just make COM plugins for zMUD and MM2k... biggrin.gif

Also, does SimpleMU* have triggers? I forgot?
Daganev2004-10-27 19:45:15
Like I said in my earlier post, I require windows. I'm not profcient enough in programming to not have layout windows so i can keep track of where things are.
Daganev2004-10-27 19:52:19
I've been trying ALmud, it seems to be a good compromise but the support for it is lacking and I can't find databases or arrays in it

My script/reflexes are well over 1000 for Mushclient and I never have that sluggish problem. If you need help with anything I started a post in the Mechanics section and will answer what questions I can
