I completely agree.

When I first started playing on Imperian, everything seemed eerily quiet to me, and it took me a day or two to realize that it was because of the lack of shouts. When I went to check on events back in Achaea, the shouting was so jarring I could hardly believe I had ever put up with it in the past.

I think it boils down to what the purpose of shouting is. It seems to me that, ideally, it's there to promote group role-play, and give a bit of added recognition to the top ranked players.

With that in mind, shouting seems to quickly get incoherent even when it's used like that, as everyone who is involved jumps in with their shout and keeping track of it all becomes a chore rather than an interesting bit of role-play.

In all honesty, I think public posts completely trump the purpose of shouting, making it essentially obsolete except in the case of Divine or NPC's using it to further a plot. People seem a bit more hesitant to chime in with fluff when it is recorded permanently, and affords others the chance for a detailed response.

Shouts for 50 and up sounds like a great idea, and if not that, at least no shouting until 21. I'd also be in favor of maybe just making it a skill in environment or something.

I vote get rid of shouting. Unrealistic for one, since who can bellow a full continent, not to mention world.

If someone actually put every character of a message into a different shout/say/tell/whatever, I'd vote them off the island. Bob's an idiot. He can go play in someone else's sand box. laugh.gif
