Avenger doesn't give you back lost experience.
Safe rooms are good. Although I never really noticed them much on ANY of the MUDs. What are there, like five in total? In all the games?

Achaea had a fair few, most of which were removed due to abuse though some remain in temples. Aetolia, no idea. Imperian used to have one (that I know of) that got removed due to abuse. Lusternia has plenty, that will probably get removed due to abuse.
Lisaera2004-10-29 11:32:24
Actually, Avenger -does- give you back lost experience.
Yepela2004-10-29 13:32:34
Oh really? That's handy to know. Thankfully I've never had need of the Avenger, I've managed to avoid most morons like Selim. Though, I imagine those morons only existed due to the chaos of the beginning, and are not the norm.
Unknown2004-10-29 15:11:35
Avenger doesn't necessarily give you back lost experience as much as it gives you the experience for the kill at your level. So if somone killed you at level 10 and you wait until level 40 to kill them back, you aren't really getting all of that exp back.
Unknown2004-10-29 17:46:05
Ah, thanks Lisaera and Felemar. I didn't know that.
Unknown2004-11-01 17:23:35
While reviewing the logic of my statement, I suppose that if you got avenger at level 10 and invoked it at 40, you would still be getting the same AMOUNT of experience which just equates to a lower percentage at higher levels....therefore you do get the same experience and my point is moot. *sigh* I hate proving myself wrong.
stagar2004-11-09 17:47:20
I agree with Nepth, Safe rooms are for cowards. There will be times people kill you for a bad reason, and thats what the avenger is for, or you can toughen up and kill them back. Safe rooms are abused horribly, infact I have already seen a case of abuse, A certain person was hideing from me in a safe room and refused to leave it because he knew I had PK on him. I find that cowardly and sad on both a IC and OOC level, and thats comming from someone who can't fight very good yet so I HAVE died when I could have run to a safe room and lived.
Olan2004-11-10 00:45:09
There are a lot of pro-safe room votes and few people who have stated why they think they should exist.
For news, you have news rooms. You don't need special places to stand where you can be safe just for that.
All IRE games have as a premise that real drama requires real risk, which is why in theory you can't run around and do all kinds of fun stuff while graced...and when you used to be able to, more people used it to get bodies and 'cheat' their way out of PK during events then there were people who really just didn't want to PK.
Conflict is a fact, especially in Lusternia. That's a GOOD thing, not a bad thing. You don't need to PK, or be good at it, to find success and happiness. But being able to magically make yourself immune to attack detracts from the reality and conflict of the world, removes our suspension of disbelief, and is ALWAYS abused more then used.

But sometimes it did make roleplay sense, I always thought it made sense for Oneiros' Temple in Achaea to be a safe room, because a god of peace WOULD make his temple a sanctuary. Its just unfortunate that people abuse them. I am one of those with very split decisions, I think there are very good OOC reasons for not having Safe Rooms but I also think there are good IC reasons for having a certain few of them. Maybe a way around it would be to not allow people who have made an agressive act in the last 5 minutes enter a safe time since they are impure. And people in Saferooms should have no way of communicating publically (i.e shouts, yells, market) outside of them, to stop people insulting from inside.
I just think it makes sense in some areas, like the portal of fates. As far as I can tell, it seems a totally normal step for the Fates to protect their little section of the mortal world from being a place of conflict.
Its a tough call, and would be so much simpler if people didnt just abuse it. But then I suppose reason is too much to ask of people.

Someone pks me. Then, they go get their friend to pk me. Then they go get a different friend to pk me. Then another. This needs to be fixed. I'm sick of group pk in single matches.
Iridiel2004-11-12 11:03:19
If at least they were pking you for a good reason... But the fact that some magnagorans randomly choosen victims (Chade, please, help me summon this one!!) to kill them once a month, just because is experience is the most horrible RP I've seen, followed closely with the firewalling newbies who run to hide at the portals.
I mean, if you're pked monthly by 50 magnagorans (who are very careful not to give you vengeance as they only kill you once) this is absolutely no fun. But it's a situation that can happen easily, as nobody is going to restrain them.
And when as it happens the magnagorians who do it are the big ranked guys in their cities, where's the right to IC retribution?

Maybe suspecting everyone in the group that killed you might help, like say, a group of 8 magnagorans teams you, one gets the kill, they all become suspect. The same group teams you again, one gets the kill, you get vengeance on the entire group.

Battles for uninfluenced villages will be disaster...

That's how it works right now.
Solution to all these problems? Allowing you to transfer your Suspects to your champions and protectors. That's what they're supposedly there for. A champion who isn't logged on or able to help when their charge gets attacked should be able to levy retaliation later on.

I completely agree with that, being pked for actually doing something is one thing. But randomly summoned and killed is just lame. And don't try to justify it with roleplay, its pretty obvious its only for the exp.
Conflict should at least involve the semi-willing, this is a game both parties play to enjoy, not just one. Frankly its not fun to be randomly killed while doing a quest. Being off-plane, raid, or doing other things to undermine another side is pretty much giving consent though.
Sort of off-topicish from safe rooms, but had to add my 2 cents

I think that after you die, even if you run out of grace, you should still be able to stay in a place where you cannot die. Possibly just my oppinion, possibly doesnt matter, but its an explanation to my vote.

I don't know about anyone else, but if I'm on a monolith sigil in my guildhall, I feel like the only thing possible of killing me is a God.
Caedryn2004-11-13 11:11:15
I'd truly like to see Arena areas - staging and spectator - made 'safe' for about 15 seconds after each spar/FFA.
I always see people Heartstopping seconds after they die.
