Maybe the solution to damage would simply to... increase damage dealt by knights, and lower general defences instead of replacing them. BUT seeing how stoneskin has returned, it shows like the Divines are listeting. Which is great!
Thorgal2004-11-08 11:01:03
Well, newbie mages were dying in vast flocks cause of the removal of stoneskin, that might have something to do with it. I don't think they're listening to the complaints of knights...yet?
I also doubt they know, or even think, the problem lies with the damage knights do, more in what stops the damage, my guess is they'll nerf resistance offered by armour next.

The damage is kind of a big issue, but here's something else you have to consider:
Poisons only hit 50% of the time. Knights don't control -exactly- where they hit, nor is the giving of knighthood afflictions garunteed. In essence, we basically have very little CONTROL over combat.
This is a Knights weakness. Other classes can say "Okay, I'll hit her with this, and then this, and that, should keep her under raps long enough to do such and such"
Whereas Knights go "Please, Gsrrdyk, Dark Lord of Luck, take unto thy bossom this offering of a freshly slaughtered goat so that I may be lucky enough to hit someone with afflictions that matter."
And Mages are meant to be weak against damage.

At trans resilience, they only hit 25% of the time.
Gwylifar2004-11-08 19:33:42
I've heard that "50%" rate on poisons, but I'm sure not seeing it. I'm lucky to get one time in six, and that's six hits, not six swings. Of course I haven't tried in a few days so maybe it's changed.
Unknown2004-11-08 19:50:43
Poisons are based on dealing wounds.
Roark2004-11-08 20:02:07
Poisons are 50% chance when your weapon hits. The reason for this was to compensate for the increased afflictions done with wounding. If you are getting less than 50% then it may be due to skills others have. For example, I believe Athletics has an ability to shrug off the first poison you get nailed with and also people can make themselves immune to a specific poison by sipping it and building an immunity.

If this is actually coded, this is awesome. If this is an exercise in psychology to see how many people die of self-inflicted venoms, this is awesome. Everybody wins!
Incidentally, would taking an antidote nix the chance to build up an immunity? I can see the logic either way.
Fain2004-11-08 20:33:15
Yeah, its coded.. Trans skill for Poisons. The resistance takes a RL day to take effect though.
Unknown2004-11-08 20:38:43
Amazing......I should trans *tap*

Well actually, I believe we do have abilities to target areas of the enemy. It's just that not many use it. I myself plan to hopefully develop a decent targetting system to best suit myself in combat and hopefully afflict how I want. Targetting certain spots in group battle however, to cause afflictions one wants ends up being pretty hard I would think though, with everything flashing by so quickly you can't be so sure on whether you got them with the affliction or not, unlike most other guild abilities that cause the affliction for sure generally.

You can only target accurately with jabs, swings are random within a certain range using the slashing techniques(thats why they have limited use). I want complete control of both.
Unknown2004-11-08 21:33:11
who wouldnt?

I see. Well, I hadn't started any testing yet of trying targetting, just knew that we could target.

Where is the nearest shrine to Gsrrdyk? And does he have sacrafice prefrences? White/Dark meat? Virgins?
I'm trying to learn to adjust to just having my armour now as a defense. Without Toughness and Draconis the change was significant enough to make me feel like now not only can I not deal any damage, I can't take any either.
By the way, whatever the hell Rexali's demon keeps doing to me for 1.1k of damage a turn with 400 bleed is nasty.

You can, however, only be immune to one poison at a time, right?

Though note, each swing primarily hits one body part. There is a swing for each body part.

I'm not sure it's working, though. I used the ability, sipped the morphite for it (as you're supposed to), and am still quite susceptible to morphite from warriors and dream leeches. I've tested it thoroughly, including trying to get the immunity again.
Typhus2004-11-09 15:59:01
Heh.. Knights have been reduced to big, meaty shields for us mages. I love them there, but they really need to feel like their aren't sponges.

From a fairly recent fight I had:
3425h, 4356m, 10p, 19981w exp-
(person) swings a sinuous jade rapier at you. You are cut in the belly for a mere
scratch.
A prickly, stinging sensation spreads through your body.
You feel ugliness radiating from you.
3490h, 4356m, 10p, 19981w exp-
(person) swings a sinuous jade rapier at you. (person) cuts your left arm, striking
a major artery which splurts blood in all directions.
A prickly, stinging sensation spreads through your body.
You feel ugliness radiating from you.
3359h, 4356m, 10p, 19981w exp-
Granted, putrefaction and regeneration was keeping up with the damage, but would anyone care to have a stab at these possible 5-6 affliction rounds?
