That is a good point. I had forgotten about that aspect.
I wonder if it would be possible to have the defenses stay around for hmm, 12 hours or so even while logged off.
I remember they once said that keeping the defenses in the system was a cause of lag or something, but maybe that isn't true anymore.

Hrrm, it doesn't seem like it would be that big of a strain. There could just be a hidden property of each characters profile that keeps a comma seperated list of which defenses you had whenever you log off, then whenever you log back on it looks at the time difference between when your last login was, and if <12hours, it reloads that list into your defenses, if >12, it does nothing.
12 hours is a bit much though. It would be too easy for people to log in every 12 hours and keep their defenses perpetually. I think every 4 hours is more likely to happen, and would still be very helpful. Like Noola, sometimes I just want to eat dinner or run to the grocery store.

hmm, ok yeah that makes sense.
I was thinking more like, 12 hours since you first put it up. But I guess if you are checking since last log in, 4 hours would be good.
Ok, I'll add this to the first post, of things Lusternia can do to be more casual friendly.

You're still going to have people abusing this feature... they're going to log out and log back in just to save their defenses. People are just like that.

Huh?
Are you suggesting that people are going to interrupt their sleep, every 4 hours just to save defenses?????

Yeah, that's a little crazy.

Dammit! my alarm didn't go off again! Now I woke up for nothing! and I missed my defenses by 3 minutes!

And kids at school will be sneaking into the computer lab to try to log in real quick before the teacher catches them!

Well, sure. I'd probably abuse it myself to a certain extent(I do like to flip around and do half an hour here, half an hour there, etc). However, it isn't like protracted abuse of this sort of thing would be a major problem of any sort. My saving 300 gold per login in deffing is not going to break your game.
Why bother if its such a small amount? Perception. I may only be spending 300 in supplies, or whatever the amount is, but it FEELS like a horrible, horrible waste to do that just to RM;RN;REPLY HEY WHATS UP;QQ

I'm not weird! Well, maybe a little. However Viva Pinata is awesome, and you're jealous! Hmph!

Or, and this one really gets me.... I like to play on mushclient, but if I need to write something, I much prefer the Nexus client cause of the little pop-up notepad thing. So much easier to edit a typo or edit a sentence that needs rewording or something when you don't have to do that *line # *overwrite mess. But, losing all my defs when logging out means I can't switch from one to the other so I have to use the annoying, hard to edit editor instead of the nifty easy one.
You can just log in to nexus without logging out from MUSHClient, you know. And then do the same on your way back. I have to do that with telnet a bunch.

I thought that would break the rules! Being logged in to two clients at once.... I could have been doing that all along??

It doesn't log you into two clients at once. Logging in to nexus makes Lusternia send MUSHClient a message saying "you're now logged in two places at once and will be logged out of here." Then the reverse happens to Nexus when you change over to MUSHClient. No rules are broken and no defences are lost.

I do this all the time. I use mush for the system, then if I need to edit a scroll, or make something design wise, I log into nexus, for the java thing.

I just used WORD and copied it all over.

But that doesn't help if you reread it and decide you need to change the wording a little (and I wind up rewording things often before I'm happy with them )... then you'd have to do the horrid *line # *overwrite thing. Except not anymore!

But what if it's days later... I'd have to read it, copy it, paste it into Word (or Works, depending on if I'm at home or work), get rid of all the weird formatting and type more messages, make the change, enter the editor, *clear, copy it from Word/Works paste it in.
That's even worse than the *line # *overwrite!
I like Shiri's idea though.
