There was a system on this forum that I used to frequent which worked relatively well. It was like a 'ranking' system - when you joined the forum, you were a 'Junior Member'. When you got 50 posts, you became a full member, and most people stayed like that. However, if you consistently posted well, you would become a 'Senior Member' - sort of like a probation period. Senior Members were sometimes given a single board on a forum to mod and clean up. And if they excelled at that - woo, Modship!

Just what we need. A group of players with Divine like abilities, reading our messages and passing them on to other players. Those who know me are aware of what I'm talking about.

Moderators cannot see PM's, but they -can- see IP addresses....

Yeah...weird that. Is what Casey's telling me that an address can be found from an IP right, or is she just being weird? Creepy if so.

I just some handy moderator tools, and Ip adresses are scary things. However they tend to not be any more detailed than the state or country you live in.

Hrm, but then if IRE IP-banned someone, id est Riyo, wouldn't that ban his entire state if it didn't go further than that? (Yes, I suck at computery stuff, I'm workin' on it. )

That is true as far as I know. Another reason to have mature, responsible moderators that are not lunatic stalker types.

Your adress can be tracked down with help of your IP, aye, but only if various people give you access to their logs. Which is why the authorities are so keen on laws that allow them to order your ISP to hand over dem dialin records so they can match IPs and telly numbers. To later on match the telly with an address. And similar.

Regular people like you and me can't figure out your address merely via your IP though, they can figure out where your ISP is located, at best. (Unless you tell them, somehow)
