Back to Ideas.

...I didn't understand that. I couldn't, but it could be in theory? And hey, that's true, if I'm a bot I can probably...ping...some ISP...and make them tell me.

Or something.

(Okay, that was more stupid than I really am. Maybe.)

I'm using a proxy from now on.
Shiri2005-02-15 19:21:27
Yeah, you better. (Whatever that is.)
Singollo2005-02-15 20:13:19
Personally I believe a moderator should have enough sense to not derail an entire thread, and then do it with another thread, and then yet another one
Silvanus2005-02-15 21:01:18
That rules Shiri out.
Shiri2005-02-15 21:03:18
Apparently it doesn't matter, then. happy.gif After all, if a topic's derailed, it's obviously because it didn't have a point/had run out of points to begin with. Otherwise it'd just get put on track again right fast.

What I have found interesting is that the proxies and fake IPs are the Ips that give the most information. Like my IP which is for my university gives all this great info. (Like the email adress of the tech guy, the exact mailing address of the university and the billing department, sub IPs and other techy stuff) But the IP for me which is from my house just tells me I'm from California.

Back on topic...there's been a lot of overmoderation lately. Moving threads when they don't need to be moved, editing things that don't need to be edited, and the like. I obviously have no way to know if it is a player moderator or not but the timing is quite coincidental.
Unknown2005-02-16 06:09:30
Mod editing is my biggest problem, especially with the latest General posts. Letting your character influence your modding on an OOC board is quite... silly on many levels.

That's why I suggested mods be different personas. Our current ones don't really separate themselves well. ninja.gif
Unknown2005-02-16 06:11:56
How many people here keep their posting 'personality' isolated from their character(s) though?

*cough cough*
Unknown2005-02-16 06:27:15
Exactly why it should be different.

A player is a player, but a moderator is something very different. Biases will influence their job, and well... I guess it doesn't matter. Everything is odd lately anyway.
Drago2005-02-16 06:36:06
If a mod edits something, a little note like..

Mod: Edited for -whatever reason-

at the bottom of the post, same with moving threads *nod me*
Daganev2005-02-17 01:27:41
I don't know in which way you mean my charachter has affected my modding.

As for notes, I will be sure to do that.

So far the only edits I have made have been Censor edits and moving threads.

Although it is true that everything can fit into the everything else catagory, but its better when its in a catagory that it fits.

The only biases that have influenced me so far are my OOC biases towards language and charachter bashing
Silvanus2005-02-17 01:36:31
Ooh! Pick me! Pick me! Pick me! I'm the 3rd highest poster, and give logical reason post, and don't post in random places like Shiri tongue.gif
Shiri2005-02-17 01:37:27
-usually- give logical posts, Silvanus. tongue.gif And posting in random places is part of the reason I got picked I think sleep.gif

It looks much neater if you don't leave a link to the topic you moved. It will still show to to everyone on the forums even if you don't leave a link, so personally I would try avoid wasting that space. Just a friendly suggestion! smile.gif
Daganev2005-02-17 03:50:14
Ok. you people have to make up your mind. I agree with you Etaine. I use to not leave the note, cause I thought it was silly, but people complained that I didn't leave a note.

I'm not the majority Daganev, if people here would rather you do that, do! They can still easily find the topic though.
Unknown2005-02-17 08:39:39
Always leave a note when you edit.

With regards to moving, don't move so dang much. It a thread starts out in General then includes some snippets of log..don't move it to combat logs. If a thread has a few posts already, then it either started in the correct forum or the mods are just being really slow. Either way just leave it be.
Daganev2005-02-17 09:01:59
Considering some threads get a reply not 30 seconds after it started, I don't think speed is an issue.

Quite a few posters are notorious (from my perspective) allready at starting any thread in "general". I assume this is because they either clicked the wrong thing or just want to post quickly and arn't thinking all that much.

Since many people use View new posts, instead of searching a specific section, is common for nobody to notice untill a mod does.
