I like 'The Shawshank Redemption' (starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman) and 'Memento' (Guy Pierce, Carrie-Anne Moss). The latter is pretty awesome if you dig stories with twists and such.

Also, I'm pretty pumped up about FFVII: Advent Children. It's in 3D animation, supposed to take place 2 years after the events in the game. Cloud, Tifa and Barrett (and possibly Sephiroth) are in the movie. If anyone has any information on the release date, do tell! worthy.gif

I really hope it's not a disappointment like Spirits Within.

I watched Ride with the Devil the other night - this has to be the best film ever made, and while I'm on the genre, Unforgiven is up there too.

Who doesn't love a good western? blink.gif

Okay.

Asian films -

Battle Royale - my introduction to extreme asian cinema. Gorgeous movie, not as good as the book.
Electric Dragon 60,000V - a psychedelic, heavy metal, psychotic explosion of a movie.
Ichi The Killer - "Totally insane; hilarious, stylish and grotesque, all at the same time" - Snowblood Apple

And, solely for the opening sequence, Suicide Circle...'and a one, and a two, and a three....'

Non-Asian films -

Trainspotting - sheer brilliance. For other good Irvine Welsh, try Glue (book).
Life of Brian - easily the best satirical movie *ever*. Even more amusing is the fact that local churches advertise using the 'Bright Side of Life', ignoring the movie it was written for.
Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels - Guy Ritchie's best, easily, and I know people like that.
Human Traffic - definitive clubber's movie of the 90s.
Apocalypse Now - brilliant.
Full Metal Jacket - where do you start?
City of God - incredible, an astounding achievement for a film that uses no-name actors from the slums it is set in.

Yeah. SW kinda messed up. But I can just see myself getting all worked up over Advent Children and then getting disappointed over it 'cause I convinced myself it'd be much better than it was (one reason I love Shrek 2 and MIB 2, they didn't do that to me.) I hope they fit Nanaki in. He was one of the more interesting characters I've seen for a long while in RPGs, although I don't know where all those other doggy things went.
(also, it'll annoy the Aeris-revivalist cult when she doesn't show up. Muaha.)

Battle Royale is awesome! For those who haven't seen it, a bunch of schoolkids are released on a deserted island, each of them recieving one weapon or something more useless(its a luck of the draw), whoever is left standing at the end wins! fisticuff.gif

Not sure how exactly to put Ichi into words, it's sick but funny, strange yet understandable. You'll either love it or you'll hate it. It's also extremely graphic, so those with weak hearts beware!

The director of Ichi, Takashi Miike, is now huge in Asian cinema, and every one of his films I've seen has been totally strange and shocking. His movie Audition is outstanding.

Memento, Donnie Darko, watched Identity yesterday...that movie is nuts,
I bought a DVD called Dark Fury, it's part of the chronicles of Riddick, Anime, but really good, excellent animation.
I have never seen Ninja Scroll straight, and I have never been able to understand it biggrin.gif
Damn Ninja's
I highly recomment Identity to those that liked Memento, and Donnie Darko

Almost forgot Fight Club, and Ocean's 11, which I enjoyed, haven't seen Ocean's 12

Memento was amazing, probably the best movie I think I've seen in a long while.
Usual Suspects is great too as is Donnie Darko. Any Monty Python movies. LOTR - Peter Jackson...Spirited Away. But yes. Memento was amazing, an excellent movie.

Hmmm..toughie

1. Once Upon a Time in America - (if you haven't seen it and you like gangster movies...GET THIS. One of Deniro's early roles, and the movie is one of the best I have ever seen0

2. Snatch
3. Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels
4. Gettysburg
5. Gods and Generals - This and Gettysburg are by the same filmmakers. Huge civil war freak.
6. Wall Street
7. Boiler Room - Gotta have Wall Street and Boiler Room as a finance graduate
8. Office Space
9. Stripes - Classic Bill Murray flick
10. Half-Baked - the perfect "I'm drunk, lets watch a movie" flick

Numerous more, but these are the ones I circulate the most

Huge War movie buff so add about 900 of those in too, but most people probably haven't seen.

My top however-many-I-think-of list is as follows

-Stanley Kubrick's "A clockwork orange"...I loved that movie, it appealed to me on so many levels. I like just about anything Stanley Kubrick has made as well.
-Donnie Darko - absoloute classic
-A beautiful mind, the combination of madness and conspiracy theories...
-Matchstick men, in fact, I am a fan of just about any movie with Nick Cage.
-The Interview, and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Hugo Weaving is great, especially his older stuff, he's the only reason I bothered to watch the Matrix.
-Fight Club. 'nough said.
-Otomo - German movie, true story about the last day of an african man, Otomo's life in Berlin. Very moving.
-"Welcome back, Mr Mcdonald" an absoloutely HILARIOUS japanese movie about a radio play gone horribly wrong.
-American Beauty - great movie, and Kevin Spacey was as good as ever.
-24 hour party people - Go Joy Division biggrin.gif
-Spirited Away: I love anime as much as the next nerd, but this one I just think is awesome. It was the first DVD I ever bought, and I love it so smile.gif
-Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch: If you haven't seen these movies, do it. The Lock Stock series was awesome too.
-The Italian Job, another classic. The original was great too, but the remake didn't disappoint me (in fact I was impressed) so it definately gets 3 thumbs up.

I could go on with a whole list of movies that I think are very good, but these are probably my top-fun movies.
Dan2005-01-15 08:04:52

Center Stage
The Chipmunk Adventure(when your name is Alvin this movie rocks)
Moulin Rouge
Billy Elliot

The Wiz
Unknown2005-01-23 03:05:39
Some of my favourite would be:

Highlander
Interview with the Vampire
Queen of the Damned
The Crow
All Kevin Smith movies (Jay and Silent Bob series. Dogma is awesome)
Twelve Monkeys
Monthy Python's movies
Fight Club
Shrek
Scary Movie 1-3 (so stupid and funny at the same time)

There are probably many more... just can't recall any right now.
