Rhysus is right.
I think all these different levels: ocean protection, shields, celestia, villages. Are all great things but the fact is there are too few people and it really brings down the morale of the game. There is no time to do much of anything except fight, quest, fight. It really needs to slow down a bit if you expect people to keep playing.
Too much conflict, however it is better than none. It will however make people run away from the game too. Its not relaxing when you fight and lose all your levels you just gained the following day. Then you repeat the same thing and get nowhere fast.

I suspect that it is possible to stay relaxed and retain your levels. We already have several people above level 70!

Look at who are above level 70 and that might explain why. It might be because Celest doesn't have the supporting manpower where they don't need everyone. Dias, Sudoxe, Kaervas, and Mordrin, the top 4 don't contribute much to PK. Daevos does.. but he doesn't die so I'll ignore him. Aesyra, Aajen, Nevyn have never gone on a raid (Aajen is a wildcard, he may have, but was never noticed). Ixion and Thur, sometimes go, but not all the time. Yuniko has never done anything PK-like. And that is the top 11.
Shamarah2004-11-08 00:22:49
I saw Aajen raiding today. *shrug*

Just to toss in my 'after-a-month' impression..
It feels more or less like Lusternia attracted all of the sewage from the other games, there's a lot of imbalances, and it's frankly just too frustrating to be fun anymore. I don't know if I'll keep playing, but I do regret spending money here. I enjoy having lots of enemies, but I'm getting tired of getting metaphorically kicked over and over with nothing I can do about it. C'est la vie
(queue "Lol VIS R NUB AND GETS WUT HE DESURVS" from the peanut gallery, aka Eldrich, Flow, Tuek/'Anonymous', Silvanus, et al.)

I'm liking Lusternia a lot, actually. I suppose I'm not on the wrong end of a lot of hatred (er, openly) like Visaeris and some others are, but all the same, I find the history, geography, the whole CONCEPT of planes, politics, skills, and -everything- to be better than the other 3 IRE MUDs, and thus all other MUDs, and thus all other games. This's been my best spent time in a long time. I really hope they iron out these balance issues sometime soon, since I'd rather have people happy with their combat, but apart from that everything's been seriously great. Minus a few players. But I'll keep my gripes on them to myself. *g*
Charun2004-11-08 01:38:09
I have to say that I really love Lusternia. I joined the day after the beta opened. I have been a player of Achaea for well over a year, spent at least $1000 there (don't ask) and after only a month of Lusternia being opened, have all but completely abandoned Achaea.
I love the fact that there's so much RP-intensive stuff going on. That doesn't however mean I love participating in it all the time. Just the fact that the world is dynamic and exciting gives me an excuse to keep coming back, even it is only to found out what happened to the Necromentate, or which Surpernal was going to be attacked next. I don't think that every HAS to participate all the time. Sure, I'll help out on a raid or two, and I jump to the defence of Nil any time it's attacked (due to we Nihilists being the guardians of Nil) but most of the time I just enjoy listening to what all's going on.
I have to say good work to all the Divine who are constantly working on Lusternia. Everything isn't worked out yet, but we've only been around for a month. If things are this fun already, they can only get better.

That's the funny thing. I love the game itself. I hate the people

Visaeris, I don't know you, but I have heard 3 people predict that you would complain about the people in the game after a weak or two of being out of the city, and that you would then start to say how you were the best fighter ever but it got to easy and there was no challenge.
I would recomend, you prove them wrong.

Planning on it I'll keep fighting. I'm just frustrated. It'll pass.

Aye. All the Crows are very irritated right now, and we have good reason to be a little iffy. We'll pick things up...

I do hope you guys stick with it, you made a really brave choice to go out there and be the small guys against the horde of Serenwilders, and I very much respect you for that.
Thorgal2004-11-08 10:53:57
Aye, if you keep this up, Visaeris, untill the commune actually gets implemented, I think people're gonna talk about it for a looooong time, IC it'd be quite a heroic act. And back to topic, I wasn't too sure about Lusternia at first, but now I completely abondoned Achaea as well, a friend just told me: "I think we can safely say RP in Achaea has completely died now." My only problem right now is that I'm completely unable to bash as a knight, but I think Lusternia, apart from these imbalanced, has surpassed Achaea at about every level.

I'm cheering for the little guys (Disciples of Crow) Keep the faith!
Unknown2004-11-08 17:29:40
I hope that they stick with it.....I know Visaeris, Guido and everyone else who I am too tired to think of are getting really frustrated and I can only barely feel their pain but hopefully in the end they stick it through. They knew the road wasn't going to be easy to travel but I look at it like the part of the movie "Big Fish" where he goes off the trail and has to fight his way through all of the brambles and spiderwebs.............there has to be a better place past the struggles. Besides, Serenwilde is just jealous they have a dang white antlered thing instead of an awesome crow. ----Hung on Crows....especially since his time as a follower of Calix in Imperian..----

Fain, i was the first one found that 'city quest - fill in later' room in closed beta actually. WOOT ME. i should be in notable for finding it. KIDDING!

I'm a big fan of what Roark says so sometimes I just go to his page and havn't paid much attention to this thread... but he was sying something about commodities and quests that help you but don't hurt the other guy.
In Beta, that was how I assumed the villages would work. I did not expect to see people raiding cities and killing villagers and dwarves. I would have thought each village would have quests specific to it, that helps increase the production. People who focused on influence and generally liked questing would become an important part of the community in a city and in same ways would have equal clout as the PKers who would be working more on power quests.
I think it would be more usefull if the amount of killing required for mining and such were reduced.
Perhaps instead of actually killing dwarves, you gave them shiny rocks and promised them gems in ankgrag, and when they came to the master guy he killed them and raised them.
Make Commodities more based on passive questing, Power on violent questing, and Influence on Influence as it is.

I'm still voting that Influencing workers with Empower should make them produce more commodities and power, as well as being toughened to raiders. Since Empowering doesn't even last a RL hour, we would have people run to the villages and influence all the time, meaning we would have people actively patrolling and defending villages. Thus raids wouldn't be so all out effective. Right now, we can have ten dead miners before a single defender gets there.
It's great for low level characters, experience through something other than bashing, plus it might even the field when it comes to raiding.
On top of that, we would actually be able to use the influence skills more often.

If I go and quit my guild and shout badly-spelled smacktalk at Serenwilde until I get killed lots, I get divine respect?
Awesome.

For being the small guys against a horde of Serenwilders. Not for much else
