Well, I've noticed recently that I've been humming or imagining music while in certain parts of Lusternia. For instance, even though I've never been to the Astral Plane, I always imagine the Floating Continent theme (Final Fantasy 6) playing on it when I finally do get there. Most of the music I imagine in the background is RPG-ish music, but some of it isn't. So, I'm curious. Does anyone else imagine or play music while they're on Lusternia?
Unknown2004-11-04 18:41:05
I do too. Then again, probably because I AM listening to music. And that Floating Continent theme rocks.

Through a lot of Lusternia, I find myself listening to the Command and Conquer soundtrack. Nothing beats a bunch of Celestians walking into your group of Magnagorians just as "No Mercy" starts playing.

Depends on what my character, donnar, is doing. If he's drinking, i got this irish drinking song in my head. If he's drunk and fighting, or jsut fighting, i got the song beserkers" stuck in my head. If he's screwing around, i got some random rock song that sounds fun, like she is beautiful; by andrew W.K. If donnar is talking to stabbington ( that bear in mangora, i think he's a pet) or ellara, well, then the mood is usually light and i got on something like led zeppelin in my head.

Thrash and death metal all the way! (Grave, Slayer, etc.) Or Baroque and Renaissance period music: Bach, Gabrielli, Michael Praetorius, Iohn Dowland, etc.

For some reason, I always get the Star Wars theme....the one you always hear when the Empire is around that DUNH DUNH DUNH DUNH DUNH DUNH DUNH
Yeah! Well, maybe it isn't that easy to picture but anywhoooo. That or the Final Fantasy music you hear at the start of FFIII or the Chocobo music from FFXI

I just listen to my music with my moods, regardless of whether or not I'm playing Lusternia. Finntroll seems to come up a lot though, they're black metal with an accordian.

I have a playlist of music that seems to fit well, containg WarCraft III and FF7 soundtrack stuff, some Prodigy, some Iron Maiden, Hammerfall, among other things.

If I'm just questing or bashing I put on gregorian chant. If there is an intense battle going on I tend to put on led zeplin or other classic metal. Sometimes I get in a 60's/70's mood and put on james taylor, simon and garfuncle, gordon lightfoot, the byrds etc.

I have Pachelbel's Canon in D on when I meditate (which is very often, considering my heavy willpower use) and when I sleep. When I'm bashing or fighting, any rock goes. When I'm exploring, I pick something random.

Gothic Techno or Gothic Metal for my usual goings-ons (plotting :-P).. its dark, smooth, seductive, and still a bit mechanical.. its a perfect match for my character (*huggles his demented, sadistic Celestian*) So.. either Collide (an underground Gothic techno duo from L.A. the singer is a very attractive woman with an amazing voice... check out www.collide.net if you want to hear a couple of their songs.) or Lacuna Coil (Italian Gothic Metal band.. not too much exposure here in the U.S. but they've seen play on MTV2's headbanger's ball) Though, Metallica's S&M has been known t find its way on during this time as well :-P
For Extra juicy plotting (revenge and such)... heavier stuff gets put on... Atreyu, Godsmack, Disturbed, Drowning Pool... (oh.. and Jem's song "24".. I <3 guitar and violin combo)
For Exploring comes the fun stuff, which can range quite a bit, though I seem to enjoy playing Blind Guardian's "Nightfall in Middle Earth" (a German speed metal band.. the CD takes part of Tolkien's book, the Simarillion, and turns it into a series of different songs.)

Not that any of you have prolly heard of a lot of these people, (Some I know you all have) but I listen to a lot of Nickel Creek, AKUS, Reba, Big and Rich, and Toby Keith.

My musical tastes are extremely ecclectic. When I'm mudding and in the mood for music, I have Winamp shuffle through my collection. At any given time, I could be listening to Enigma, Rufus Wainright, Dean Martin, or Black Sabbath. I'd say the only unrepresented musical genres are rap and country.
Scryth2004-11-06 08:09:26
Not a big music fan myself, but there IS something in raiding Celestia listening to Nightwish's "I Wish I Had an Angel".

Ewwww. Bach is icky, and boring.
Vivaldi (The Four Seasons)
Pomp and Circumstance
Mozart (Anything)
Mussorgsky (Bydlo, in particular)
Handel's Water Music, Finale
Anything by Saint-Saens, but especially Dance Macabre
Now that I think about it, anything by Vivaldi.
I loves the violin.

God yes. Sad as it may be, I hear the theme tune to Star Wars everytime I switch planes. I think I visualise travelling aether pathways much like the hyperdrive thing when travelling space. And, naturally, the Empire theme music gets given to Magnagora - I secretly think all the Maggie leaders are Darth Vader incarnations.
"Join the Tainted, (pause for asthmatic breathing) it is your destiny!"
Big black cloaks, funny helmets, tainted and broken lungs to give heavy breathing; it's so feasible.
Anyway, aside from that, I just keep listening to my indie/rock music while playing.

Bach boring?? PDQ Bach was the greatest composer in modern history! One just needs to hear the beautiful Grand Serenade for an Awful Lot of Winds and Percussion, the Echo Sonata for Two Unfriendly Groups of Instruments, or the ever famous 1712 Overture. Has there ever been such talent?

-thwap- Bach's my favorite, as is the violin (learning to play viola myself).
Unknown2004-11-06 19:41:10
I particularly enjoy Bach, Vivaldi, and Paganini, but I don't think their music really fits in with Lusternia. On the subject of instruments, I play violin, viola, and banjo. But I haven't played the banjo in forever.

1712 Overture?
Wasn't it Tchaivosky who wrote the -1812- Overture, with the cannons and bells?
*EDIT*
I wonder if that was sarcastic. Anyhow, Mozart was the best composer to ever live. Him, or Shania Twain.
