I argue that Ocarina of Time is the best nintendo game ever made. Aside from that, does anyone else dig the Silent Hill series as much as I do?
Asarnil2004-11-06 14:19:23
You wimps, the best RPG's are probably from the Super Nintendo Era:
Final Fantasy 2 & 3
Lufia 1 & 2
Chrono Trigger
Breath of Fire 1 & 2
Illusion of Gaia
Earthbound
Terranigma
Super Mario RPG
Secret of Mana
Ogre Battle
Super Metroid
For non SNES rpg's, the honourable mention list consists of:
Shining Force 1,2,3 (Sega Genesis/Saturn)
Xenogears (PSX)
Final Fantasy VII & IX (PSX)
Skies of Arcadia (PSX)
Chrono Cross (PSX)
Vagrant Story (PSX)
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PSX)
Lands of Lore 1-3 (PC)
KOTOR (PC)
Fallout 1 & 2 (PC)
the Pokemon series (GB/GBA)
I could keep on going on, but it would start getting TOO redundant. Even for me.

*PEER* You guys are soo luckily. You especially Asarnil! Us poor Britishers never even GOT Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger (which I got a ROM of), FFTactics or Legend of Mana! I managed to play FFT with an American friend once, but my search for Chrono Cross is becoming more and more desperate. I've been waiting for the damn thing give or take 5 years. Oh, and MoO2 rocks too. And Earthbound was more funny than fun, but good nonetheless.

I'm really tempted to get out my old SNES and start playing some of these again. I'd forgotten how many great RPG's there were on the SNES!
Lindhe2004-11-06 19:24:14
Let's see... Aside from the usual SNES fare, Final Fantasy and Terranigma and whatnot, Planescape: Torment is unquestionably my favourite on the PC. I haven't played nearly enough Silent Hill, which is superior to Resident Evil in every way. Phantasy Star is far, far underrated, except for the third. System Shock is too good to be that unknown, and I'm looking forward to Bioshock. X-Com is fun, but a touch too difficult for me. Over absolutely everything else, though, is Shin Megami Tensei and all its derivatives. I am, at the moment, trying to struggle through Innocent Sin with a translated script next to me. It's not much fun, but I perservere through sheer devotion.
On a related note, I get a vague feeling that somebody On High knows of SMT as well. I'll see about getting the description and a picture, but if I recall, Shakiniel looks shockingly like Gabriel.

I'll bet none of you have ever played Clock Tower (SNES). It makes Silent Hill look like a walk in the park, whether it's translated or not.
That aside, I'm a Super Nintendo junkie; I love Chrono Trigger, Tales of Phantasia, and Final Fantasy 6. Terranigma's pretty cool, and so is Illusion of Gaia.
On a more PC-related note, the only PC RPG I really enjoyed was Planescape: Torment. An amazing story, the ability to go through it with or without using violence as a solution, and an array of awesome characters.
That about covers me. And, of course, I love text-based games. Nethack, the Zork series, MUDs... They're really immersive for me.

I never did get to play Planescape, but Baldur's gate two was AWESOME. One of the best plot's I've ever seen, either. Oh, and Ellara, don't place your bets too soon. *grin* Did you see the PS1 butchering of that game though? Scissorman just looked like some 9 year old retard with a paper cut out on his head, I swear. I liked Silent Hill regardless though. Resident Evil just got on my nerves.
Shamarah2004-11-06 22:49:16
Nethack? Haha, that game's fun, but I'm terrible at it.
Oh, and here's probably the funniest online multiplayer game in existence (in fact, probably the only funny online multiplayer game in existence, but that's beside the point):
Kingdom of Loathing
I mean, it's got Saucerors and Pastamancers as classes, and meat as the currency It won't detract from playing MUDs, either, since it's more of a daily-type-thing.

Is your avatar game related, Shamarah? Looks like a cross between an Azer, Sacrifice's Ambassador Buta and that lame evil pirate zombie dude from the Monkey Island games
Gaetele2004-11-07 02:57:15
Hmm... a list of favorite Video Games?
Tales of Symphonia
Tales of Phantasia
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Super Mario RPG
Final Fantasy Tactics
Starcraft
Warcraft III
Diablo II
Golden Sun series
Fire Emblem series
There are more; I just can't think of them.

Silent hill kicks major arse. But i like the RE series a crapload more. It's more........realistic....I have theories on the t, g, and whatever virus formt he game. I think it's a mutagenic strain of rabies........yeah....

Surprised the RPG buffs didn't say Xeno Gears or Xeno Saga
*sniffle* Nobody likes robots anymore

Asarnil2004-11-07 06:50:20
You orrible little maggot! I said Xenogears - that along with the Metal Gear Solid series have the best game plot twists EVER.
Shiri2004-11-07 10:50:49
Don't get me started on MGS2 though. Not only did that have a completely ridiculous plot, especially towards the end, but it felt more like one of those stupid interactive movie games they stopped making for a good reason (except whoever made that dodgy X-files thing) like 10 years ago. Sheesh. The rest are okay though
And once again, I MIGHT have played Xenogears, but it never came out in Blighty >_<

FFVII (There is no better game character than Sephiroth)
C&C series
Diablo 1 and 2
Resident Evil series
Need for Speed: Underground
GTA series
Battlefield: 1942
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Devil May Cry
Any decent RPG
And I'm quite certain that "Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth" will be great.

I've only really got into gaming (other than MUDs) in the last couple of years.. My faves are:
Star Trek: Armada II (PC)
Civilization III (PC)
Ocarina of Time (N64)
Ghost Recon (PC)
GTA: Vice City (PC)
GTA: San Andreas (PS2)
I was gonna buy 1000 creds last week, but I got a PS2 off ebay and San Andreas instead... And these damn Dance Dance Revolution kinda missions are driving me insane!

Speaking of that! I had a choice between buying credits for myself or buying Rome Total War, Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War, and Battle for Middle Earth vs 500 credits... I choose the 3 games
Unknown2004-11-07 16:23:38
good job, Warhammer is awsome
