I seem to be full of questions today. I just want to know, when the knight attack messages look more severe (e.g. plunging a sword deep as opposed to a light scratch), is it actually doing more damage? That is, do knight attacks do more damage the lower health you have, or something?

It indicates lower health, the idea being that it's most gruesome when the deathblow is dealt if they die from damage.
