Perhaps have Typhoon throw people around and smack into others, knocking both down at a random percentage.

Thankfully, Stag will probably be improved. But Staghide still isn't a good replacement for Stagaura
Syntax: Staghide. Covering yourself with warm stag hide, you will protect you against streme cold.
Stagaura provided physical defence. And since back then, when the changes started, Fitness worked the same as staghide but also protected against hot. Now it only protects against hot. Well, at least you don't have to activate Fitness, though it will not be a good replacement for Toughness.

Yes, both were downgraded to protect against one form of damage (simply because I don't like the exact duplication) and upgraded to protect against that damage type more than it did before. So it should be an even trade.

A note on typhoon, demesne-oriented combat requires the right elevation. Druids need to get you in the trees for most things to work, and aquamancers need to get you in the water for most things to work. (Hmmm... I wonder how things will be for the air mages??) Thus the primary point of skills that change your elevation in a demesne is to make it easy for you to get people at that level, and they usually have an added bonus like extra damage to make it more interesting, but ultimately the point is to keep people in your water (or your trees, etc.).

The funniest part, Roark, is that I just discovered that yesterday. Then I read your post. While in the arena, I saw that raise cudgel works wonders.

Ummm, obviously illusions isn't designed to be lethal, but runes and aquamancy is, if you use supersling a little clever, combine it with phantom and boil them with your staff while your demesne is bashing them, I don't think you can complain about not being able to kill people, unlike in achaea, mages here actually have to use "skill", to win...

Thorgal, it is evident you have no clue what afflictions runes can give. Nor do you know what afflictions phantom gives. I suggest you speak to someone who has the skills before you make your assessment of what they can do. You are after all not a mage, nor do you have any of the skills I am discussing.
On to the demense part, none of the aquamancer skills give extra damage if they are in the water. Actually, typhoon only knockes people out of the state of flying and if they have levitation up they will take no damage. If they are already on the surface of the demense, it does nothing to them.
I will say again, outside of damage, aquamancers do not have any means of defeating a person. Our demesne is relatively benign compared to the demesnes of druids and geomancers. Outside of diluting a person's healing vials and giving them stupidity, we are incapable of hindering their healing. If we were able to acquire a beheading skill, then the skills we have could work towards that. Right now, using them really only works towards harrassment and giving us time to heal at best.

Like others, I know the ab file of every skill in every skillset...so I do know what I'm talking about, but...since aquamancers are the only guild without an instakill, it might be fair you got one.
Geb2004-11-16 19:04:10
AB files only tell part of the story. Actually having the skills used on you and gaining data from it gives a better picture. I had the ab files for the entire list of of occultist spells from achaea. Having that information was not the same as actually having the skills used on me and seeing what they actually do.
In short, I am saying that seeing an ab file will not always give enough information to allow a person to effectively comment on a skill.

and the crankness continues....while thorgal may or may not know the whole story, he knows enough to make good, solid points, geb. wait.geb is the egyptian god of earth, shouldnt you know more about geomancy than aquamancy? Jus tlet it go, sheesh.

Whats my instakill as a druid? fury? full mana and if they have more than 1700 hp they will merely heal it off with two sips and I break my cudgel

Feh, you got Sap, that's good 'nuff , hit 'em with paralyse and impatience, then Sap, and they're not gonna get out in time to not die.

You are correct on the name. You stating a point is good and solid holds nothing to me unless you can back it up with facts. Telling me to end my side of the discussion is not your place, since you were not in the discussion to begin with.

Thats a vile skill because of pooka
Unknown2004-11-17 14:33:51
Fear the Icewall/Pooka/Contemplate/Toadcurse combo. Though, we lack any ability to drain mana directly, so if you have a decent base of mana (like 2500, the more the better though), you shouldn't get yourself toadcursed.
Unknown2004-11-17 18:25:15
what on earth is toadcurse and pooka?
Shiri2004-11-17 18:40:08
Pooka is like a soulmaster from Achaea's occys - it makes people do things. Toadcurse, if they're on less than half mana, turns them into a toad which can do literally nothing but move and ribbit. The idea is to use the pooka to make them dive into the floor, so they can't move (standing doesn't count as moving for the purposes of letting frogs do it), then toadcurse them. The problem, as someone said, is getting them to below half mana in the first place. Unless their health is at serious threat, they shouldn't get that low - without spells like amissio the ritual, it's not quite as good as wrack and...the Celestine one...whatever it's called.
