I like that idea... but how about just a random commodity just like a flowerpot... maybe call it....
Rift of the Shyloc's hand.

How about...
Engraving chisel - A chisel that allows you to put up to two runes on an armour instead of just one.

If you do put artifact weapons instead of making the player choose from three different swords perhaps they could just use a Mastersword design and buy one of the three levels for that sword.

That sounds good... there could be a special commodity shop on Avechna's Peak that sells artifact steel/iron/gem commodities (or whatever you need for a master weapon) for credits. The Forger could then use these to make the design for the master weapon, only it could have vastly improved stats (perhaps that should be regulated somehow, as i've heard a lot about how some master weapons are terrible compared to ordinary ones, and it'd suck if you had an artifact-forged master weapon that was even worse than a normal master one) and perhaps some sort of 'sparkling' quality in its description.
I'm not exactly sure how Forging works, but it could be something like... go to the artifact comm shop, buy coloured diamonds for 4 credits each, toughened leather for 2 credits per piece, and black steel for 3 credits per (substitute with whatever comms you actually need). Then have the Forger forge your weapon to a Masterwork design, have it come out with vastly improved stats (within a certain range, say +70 or something above the normal average for a master weapon, within a +/- 5 range for stats) and add a couple of adjectives to the weapon's description - instead of having a "silver curved Dairuchi scimitar" it'd be a "sparkling silver curved Dairuchi scimitar". No decay, resets to the owner (could be a Divine thing you have to work out through messages).
Just to keep things more in the hands of players, at least in a sense. It'd be more fun maybe.

interesting idea.... but would dat be for master weapons only?
Fullplate requires 200 steel.... but I guess 1500 credits is normal for someting like dat?

Yeep, that's a lot. I'm not really sure... it's hard to say because Achaea didn't have artifact armor apart from dragonscale (scalemail). Imperian did, I think the most expensive was 800 credits for fullplate or whatever it is... Lusternia only has a few different types of armor though, and then there's greatrobes to factor in. I'm not sure, maybe armor should be left out, or there should just be an artifact armor shop that's entirely separate.
Another problem to work out would be having the item marked as your own, if you're the one who pays for it but aren't the one who forges it. I don't know.

My all-time favorite artifact is the one from Imperian that allows you to customize your entrance and exit message that's displayed to other people.

An artifact vial which protects a potion from annoying Druid skills.

Now that's a good one, I'd buy that right away.

Another artifact I'd like to see is one that let's you hear what people are saying on other planes, regardless of whether they have enough Planar for their voice to carry to you. It's so annoying to hear only half of interesting conversations when I'm off Prime.

I really like the idea of comm producing arties, but that requires a little bit of work to use.
Just to add a few more:
Something to sheer sheep for cloth comms, something to extract the different ores/gems from rockeaters. I'm sure something like that could be added for just about every comm!

Artifact greatrobes that can be enchanted, have the enchantment dispelled, and be re-enchanted, maybe with one extra thing to normal ones. Especially being able to customize the way they look would be good (the current ones, with all their diamonds and rubies and gold, are totally pimp-style).
Also, houses... around a city, or maybe around the continent. Perhaps they could also have greenhouse rooms able to be purchased, but only inside the house.

An artifact that lets you change tradeskills once with no lesson loss (and that's cheaper than the average amount of converted lessons needed!)
63% lesson loss is way harsh! We can change races once in our lifetime if we find they aren't suitable, why can't we do the same with a bad trade choice without losing the majority of what we've studied? I'm pretty sure you don't lose experience if you change from a fast experience race to a slow one.

That artie should cost 400 credits.

I really liked the artifact (and Idra ability) in Imperian that allowed you to mask your identity to others. I wouldn't mind something like that here, except I would prefer a cloak/robes to a mask like Imperian.
Cloak of Concealing - A cloak that when worn, allows the user to CONCEAL their identity to others. Any form of aggressive action will reveal your identity and cause the cloak to stop working. To others in the room, you would appear as: "A cloaked figure is here." Also, perhaps a 5-8 power cost so people can't abuse it in raids and such?
Some sort of figurine/mini-statue that you can set at a location and use as a teleport target later on would be neat. Drop the figurine wherever you need it, and then TELEPORT FIGURINE.
I'm also against stat artifacts as many others have said. We already have people with potentially 20+ int/str. Knights can already tank like crazy, and then imagine them with a +3 con artifact . Anyone with that would never die to damage.

You were sarcastic, right? It only takes like 300 credits to trans a skill to begin with. I do like the sound of the remote nexus linking, though, on a more serious note. And with the high amount of transport going on in Lusternia, I'd imagine some of the more useful transport that would have been way too valuable in the other IRE MUDs could become viable here. Perhaps one to let you teleport into the air above someone, or something to do with burrowing.

I'm pretty sure the mask ability allowed you to target "Man" or "Woman" for an attack, not sure if thats what you meant though.

To be honest, I'd say that I'd have to agree with whoever said RP/Misc artifact types only.
This is why.
15 skills. *About* 270 credits to transcend each. Ergo, 4050 credits. US$1134.
At that point, you're going to be a pretty good fighter. Add artifact weapons, and defense artis - at this point, you'll be more or less unstoppable, but you'll also have the nice collection agencies knocking on your door.
Yes, I realise that IRE games are a moneyearner at heart. But the difference I see with Lusternia, as opposed to other IRE games, is simple. There are no miniskills. You pay as much to trans Combat as you do to trans Planar.
My point is, really, that if that happens, you *should* be acting about as strongly as an 'artiho' in Achaea with full trans, and that extra artifacts will just unbalance your game even more.
Although, the one artifact I'd like to see would be -
A black leather trenchcoat - Having donned this trenchcoat, you suddenly realise that you are in a world whose rules and structures are governed by a giant computer. You also have the nifty ability to fly, make impressive sounding noises that actually mean nothing, slow down time, miraculously dodge projectiles, and your hair never moves, no matter what you do. On the downside, you're really, really pale, you are bothered by constant feelings of inferiority and stress over potential problems, and you find a strange, bald Dracnari child following you about stating that 'There is no spoon.'

No, you have to know the name with the mask. Although, if they attack you, you know who it is.
