New Archetype

My concern with a merchant guild is that it'd be 99% seconds. They'd then ruin the market forces by selling everything at cost to their seconds or friends of their seconds rather than selling at market level profit margins. That will always exist so long as trade skills exist, but I think a guild with excessive trade skills would exasperate the problem.
Unknown2004-11-16 16:07:00
I never thought of it that way but now that I have, that makes sense. Good point you have there. Damn you for being so smart Roark. tongue.gif
Thorgal2004-11-16 16:14:59
You really don't have to be a merchant archetype to play a merchant...that makes as much sense as a pacifist archetype: none. You can be both a merchant or a pacifist as any archetype.
Unknown2004-11-16 18:11:00
a pacifist knight? that's like wipin before poopin, it dont make sense. smile.gifI can see a wiccan or druid or mage, but a knight? nah.
Thorgal2004-11-16 18:59:56
There's plenty of knights that don't bash or fight, the first being cause bashing is near impossible without transing combat and knighthood, and the second cause they don't want to get involved in PvP. So they just quest, influence and forge, or whatever tradeskill they took. Saying this to indicate there's pacifist knights.

I've seen some REALLY bad ideas in my time. But MAN.

Which idea are you refering to? I've seen atleast 4

Someone was saying earlier that Influence is hard to get gold or something? I was about to respond with the usual.. you just have to look harder, at which point I remember complaining about availablity for Influence users in Beta.

And thank god they added the changes that they did to make it better for Influencers.

I think one change they should make, is that a the higher level begging skills. Like Wheedling, should make mobs give out more gold, more gold than they would normally give out. That would help a lot I think.

As cool as the tactics are for influencing, I think it would be better if the advanced atttacks aslo had added affects. Like with charm instead of just attacking your enemy you could also order them to follow you.

actually, now that I think about it... does Tarot have some breed of hierophant *force person to do X* ability in it? Because I haven't heard about one yet, and I'm so glad there isn't... its REALLY obnoxious and can't really be countered without excessive triggering (something I don't think any game should need).

As far as including a psuedo-jester guild or some other thing.. The Jesters were a good idea run horribly amoke by it's leadership. Over in Achaea the Jesters had a problem with people raiding their guild and killing them and their guild tutor. Since they were part of no greater political structure, they didn't really have an option but to take it. Imagine if such a target were dropped in on Lusternia?

Donnar, I cower at the thought of such a guild coming into being. They'd never get nihilism (nihilism being tied to the plane of Nil, which Glomdoring has no access to), but even handing them all those others is just far too crazy.
Unknown2004-11-17 03:16:16
well, obviously, your what your name implies. plain. ie:simple. I know glomdoring is going to be a darkly oriented nature place, or at least, that's my assumption. I was just relating some skillsetsa that might fight into that theme nicely. Although i do think it sahould get it's own form of nihilism......maybe something like domination from the occultist class in aetolia...that would be pretty nice to see. Actually, as i think of it, it would be nice to see a skill relating to tainted nature, that perhaps combined nihilism and nature/druidry.
Unknown2004-11-17 03:25:21
I would count on warriors, tainted druids, and an offshoot of Wiccans (but not pro-fae).
Warriors - take totems, with a Crow or Night Specialization. Other skills are normal.
Druids - Nature, Totems (Crow), Runes.
Psudo Wiccans - Nature, totems (night), and hexes.

There's always the Unseelie. Who wouldn't want a redcap for a pal? And a nuckelavee would make a great fourth (or fourth and a half, if you're being technical) for bridge.
Unknown2004-11-17 11:38:34
or, how about a gremlin and buckawn? a wil-o-wisp perhaps? maybe a dark fae?

I had never heard of that, but from what I saw when I looked it up it looks like just the right thing.

Already a normal fae laugh.gif .

Is the personal attack really needed?

What you're looking for is something *like* those skills all offered to one guild. In which case I think the ideas surrounding those skills could blend nicely into a tainted forestal guild.

Yes it's semantics, but its important semantics.

The one problem being that while most people know what most of the current fae are (although there's still some debate on whether a pigwidgeon is a Harry Potter rip off or not), I bet hardly anyone would know what a Nuckelave (well, that's how we spell it) was. Giant walking skinless one eyed malboro smokin' heads aren't exactly popular culture in exactly the same way as dryads tongue.gif On the other hand, there's a lot of more subtle influence in things like highmagic.

Problem is, where would all these fae come from? tongue.gif
Unknown2004-11-17 18:22:38
dont worry about it math. i just reutrn the stabs when i think myself has been stabbed. and their already wil-o-wisps? what the hell, their dark little faeries that kill people! hehehe. Maybe some undead pixies,too...

oh, all fae would come fromt he ethereal plane. you know what would be cool.if the taint spreaded to all planes, and offered a dark side to each plane, like in the legend of zelda,a link to the past. i dont know if there is already, but uh.....yeah
Unknown2004-11-17 20:49:31
First of all: Donnar, Youare Awsome. A link to the past is awsome too.

Secondly, maybe if the Fae became tainted, but protected enought to stay Fey? If that made any sense... They dont get tainted enough to turn into Imps, but they still have the influence of Taint on them.... making tainted Fae.

The Ethereal Glomdoring, silly. We just have to figure out where they're hiding. Anyone for banshee baiting?
Unknown2004-11-17 21:19:43
why am I awesome......
Unknown2004-11-18 19:17:18
actually, i an idea just now. what if the wiccan's of glomdorin (ill refer to them as that for now) used a combination of necromancy and wicca to take corpses of sentinent beings, and make them into different types of spirits. for example, we have joe dark wiccan with the corpse of a fink. he does a special ceremony similar to lesson learning in length that uses up a certain number of power points, and voila, he has a spectre or a wraith, or a spook. i had a huge lis to fthem for a guild idea in aetolia. ill try to look it up later. I'll keep yas posted.
