New Archetype

I think there shoudl be two new archetypes to the game. each city has a priest (guardian), warrior, and mage archetype. I think it would be cool if we had an assasin archetype (like the idras from imperian and the serpent class form achea) in the lands, as well as a semi-nonviolent role within the lands. (the jesters from achaea) My reasoning behing this is that not everyone is going to be a mage, a priest, or a warrior, and they may want to be stealthy and ninja like. Or maybe their just there to rp and make money and do politics and be peaceful? Howabout a jester-like class that would allow them to entertain at gatherings (now that i think of it, a hybrid of jester from achaea and bard from imperian would be nice)I think it would be a wonderful change for those of us who dont seek to destroy, and would rather use the influenc skill to get our exp 9makes sense for pacifists,eh?)

I was a Jester - and after several downgrades over the years, I'd say a Geomancer or aquamancer has better Jesterly skills than the Jesters themselves.

....By George, I do miss all my poppets, though. Bloody fun things, those were.

I want Dreamweaving!

Oh, and the way tradeskills are put in, I wonder if we can expect a merchant archetype? Where their archetype skills just lets you pick more than one tradeskill (balanced by the fact that they have no real combat abilities)

On the website there is a lesson pool that has no skills in it for now. I think it's called 'performance'. That means you're going to have some bardic types, sooner or later.

aye and INVOKE BLUE to save your voice from harm.
Unknown2004-11-15 23:32:49
eh. i just think it would be nice to see those two kinds of archetypes in. like, assasins from serenwilde can have (just to save time in naming skills, ill use those form aetolia and imperian) They can have subterfuge or predation combined with totems and perhaps nature? and those in magnagora would have the same assasin skills (subterfuge and predation) but have necromancy and nilhism instead. and so on for celest.
Aajen2004-11-15 23:37:53
Oooo a Merchant archtype. Let's them get 1 guild skillset for uhh... merchanting stuff, then choose 3 other trade skills. That would be so much fun, I've always loved IREconomics.

Also I like the idea of "non-violent' archtype to be honest, even though I'm not non-violent. Gives people who don't want to, or can't, fight a reason to trans skills and something to do besides be a snuggl... *cough* That word makes me cringe.
Unknown2004-11-16 01:53:48
eh. i think it would be better if it was semi-nonviolentm like the bard class from imperian. well, they were pretty violent, but still. make it half and half. combine merchant with jester or merhcnat with bard. i dunno.

Maybe its just me only being interested in myself, but don't you think that Assassins would be more of a Glomdoring guild?
Also, I dont think that the existing citys are going to get redone so they can each have assassins. I think Hallifax would also have some sort of sneaky guild... Perhaps the Illuminati will have some sneaky abilities? Who knows...

And Donnar, I could not see a merchant jester class. It makes zero sense. Like a druid-geomancer.

If they had a merchant class I would join in a hearbeat sounds very fun.

a druid geomancer does make sense......the druid specializes in earth magic......now, if you said an occultist priest from aetolia, i can see your reasoning. But i could seriously see a merhcant class here. they can have the skill of woodcrafting, and build furniture, wooden vials, and pretty much everything else the woodcrafting skill let's you do in other realms. and make doors, too!
Daganev2004-11-16 02:39:38
Actually, with influence a merchant class can be very handy

The "combat" skills could be limited to defensive ent like creatures that are your "body gauards" Basically you up the Seduction ability in influence to allow them to stay by you longer and follow you around.

Although allowing one person to have 3 tradeskills would be very dangerous here. Herbs, Jewlery and Alchemy for example. or Jewlery Forging and anything.

My point was the druids (at least how they exist now) are against the taint, while the geomancers are with it.

I could just see a merchant. They could have a skill "Merchantry"

A cow whelps in pain as you brandish a tax report at it.

That would be fun.

I think I remember one of the gods saying that no one will ever be allowed to gain more than a single trade skill. It really would be much to powerful even to have just 2. How about Jewelery and Enchanments. No need to find anyone to get that spell for your ring, or to find people with rings to enchant, just make your own.

I do like the idea of a mercvhant guild the mroe I read of this though. Sounds like it could be a fun guild to play.

You coudl have it so that the merchant guild is able to take on ANY tradeskill. That way, while you can't have multiple tradeskills, there is always someone right there for you to help you get what you need done.

This could even do to help things like controlling the Herbalist and Alchemist pricings and all. The guild would be abel to fully manipulate the economy, and yet there would still always be the other guilds that can compete with it.

Seems to me like a mage with Illusions could, if they were smart, do a hell of a lot better than a sneaky serpent could. Lifevision and a few eye sigils pretty much acted as a spotlight on anyone trying to hide in the shadows on Achaea - the fact that there is no lifevision equivalent (just thirdeye) suggests to me that there won't be a serpent or ubder-hiding archetype here.

As for other new archetypes, well... just wait for Hallifax, Gaudiguch and Glomdoring.
Unknown2004-11-16 11:41:34
what's going to be in glomdoring, does anyone know?
Unknown2004-11-16 12:51:26
I really like the idea of a non-violent archetype. I am RPing a pacifist (and vegetarian) and it gets kind of annoying learning skills that you will never be able to use. I think the influence skill is really nice and useful for people who don't like making a living by killing stuff. The only problem I have is opportunities for making gold. I am going to post a thread about all this soon.
Unknown2004-11-16 14:25:33
If there was a merchant archetype, perhaps one of their skills wouldn't be a tradeskill exactly, but rather would help the merchant in running his/her business? Like, setting up temporary market stalls, checking the comm prices of distant places (by using informers, or maybe some merchant-magic), also running away from enemies in panic, so they won't get your gold!

And the skill of having bodyguards would be cool too.

I really want Dreamwalking....that's the only skill in IRE history that I have actually been nail-biting to get out. Congratulations to Estarra and the crew for getting me fanatically obsessed with something. Imperian did it to me as the Dwarf running on about Kaark'Krazul and you all have done it with Dreamwalking.

Also, for Merchants, I think that Rumblebelly from the R.A. Salvatore novels *noteably The Halfling's Gem* would be an interesting take on the Merchant class?

hehe.salmonius from hercules the legendary journies. How's that for a merchant. Personally, I'd like to have nature, wiccan, totems, necromancy, and nihilism all offered to be in one guild. The dark side of nature. Maybe glomdoring will have that?
