Trans Tailoring, no cloth available (well, there is if you know where to look), and little to no demand for your over-priced skill. Jewelry's gotten several attempts at fixes so far, but I know jewelers who've made a fortune, but not many tailors (other than a few sets of great robes).
My main idea for a fix is simple: weaken jewelry as it affects clothing status: (From the clothing that can be seen, you look common.)
Why would most villagers view totally naked people with a lot of jewelry on to look like royalty? Most, in reality, wouldn't. I think most jewelry items should have a max on how they effect you.
I'm wearing a cloak of splendor, and appear common. Put on a single ring, well-to-do, put on two rings, prosperous, put on two rings, opulant, put on two rings, royalty.
How about how much rings, in total, affects you is limited? How much studs affect you is limited? Jewelry total is limited? As is, it's buy the cheapest jewelry items, and slap em all on for influence purposes, and Highfashion, Great Robes, and especially splendor (trans skill) are near worthless. I'd also suggest either A) you can ONLY look like royalty if wearing splendor, or have a higher appearance if wearing splendor.

My fullplate made me prospourous, I'm wondering if it has to do with the value of items use to make the thing your wearing
Tsigany2004-11-17 21:21:49
my bodice and trousers took me from looking non descript to well-to-do. That's a two stage increase on the scale just by wearing two fairly basic clothing items
Dunno how it works with jewellry and other things though since I don't have any

I'm still scantily clad...though I am wearing trousers and a tunic.
I would definatly like to see more tailors in the realm able to produce low, mid and high end clothing for decent prices.

Which means my armor is adding more to how I look then my rings. This makes some sense considering that there's only a couple of items you can wear with armor and, face it, armor is expensive and -should- make you look prosperous.

Oh, and proofs are broken. I haven't gotten anything out of my splendor robes magic proof against a 100% magic attack, and fire proofing on cloak and robes either.
Ralshan2004-11-18 14:06:37
Proofs are, in fact, kind of freaked out right now. I've a coat with fireproofing on it. I learned, somehow, that you can RUB the coat, and you get a message about some sort of red light shining on you. This message has screwed up carriage returns in it, because half of my prompt "sticks" to the end of the message.
Anyway, after doing this the coat shows up on my MAGICLIST, with 65535 charges. One of those eerie magic programming numbers.
So, there you go. Freaky proofing bugs. Should probably BUG it, I should.

I'd like to see a skill added where we can use OLD clothes, and chop em up for commodities, too. And, it would be nice if sheep weren't so OUT of the way, so people might do the quests, so more cloth did manage to be made.
Shamarah2004-11-20 01:23:02
Yeah. I'd love a skill to let us recycle old clothes into cloth...
Silvanus2004-11-20 01:33:04
I'd like to wear robes over my chainmail.
Qaletaqa2004-11-20 02:49:22
Yeah I don't understand how I can't wear a tunic under my armour either it just boggles my mind.

In regards to clothing not selling much right now, you gotta look at the age of the realm. Currently, peoples main concern is vials, weapons, armour, herbs, enchantments. Most will think more on what they need to survive, and, because clothing isn't so necessary in other realms, people will leave that till last. Jewelerry, on the other hand, wasn't as common elsewhere, and now it's abundant, and has a clear effect on influence, so ya have people going around with tons on.
Unknown2004-11-20 13:42:14
Well, that's my point: I think jewelry should affect Influence only so much up to a certain point if you're wearing no clothing. You shouldn't look like royalty if your nude, or wearing rags, but highfashion clothing should be required or some such, to go WITH the jewelry.
I think jewelry+tailoring should make good influencers, but not one or the other (with the exception of Splendor)

An interesting way would be, that your appearance due to jewelerry can only exceed your clothing benefit by a set amount. That way jewelerry does help, but you need clothing to get the full benefit.
Unknown2004-11-21 06:58:29
The real reason clothes are broken is because you can't wear them under armour. People want armour more than clothes. You really should be able to wear certain clothes under certain armour. *shrug*

Im hearing a lot of all this as a Trademaster and they are all valid concerns. There are a lot of things tailors would like to be able to make like boots and other accessories that we have to wait for and thats simply a test of patience.
Right now we have a fair amount of things to work with. I own a shop that stays fairly stocked with clothing that sells on a good time basis. I think some of the sales thing when you offer tailoring over market is the way its done elsewhere where you make a design and its submitted and comes back and you have to pay a crud to get the thing made. Its also the fact that you cannot wear most stuff under armour. This really needs to get fixed considering in all reality wearing nothing udner that armour would cause some serious irritation. You should be able to wear shirts/undershirts underwear and pants beneath the armour. That would be a relatively easy coding change to do with layers so lets just hope they do it.
As for the royalty thing. The first post is absolutely right. If you were butt naked in fromnt of me with nothing but a bunch of jewlery I would laugh my arse off so badly Id have an asthma attack. Jewelry is just EVER SO SLIGHTLY overpowered.
The old clothes thing badly needs to be fixed. If I remember correctly, I believe I read something about tailors being able to tatter clothing - which we cant do. Id like to see us be able to both tatter it so you look poor for beggin purposes and also take clothing apart for the cloth and jewels. Forgers can smelt.. why cant we have our darn cloth back???

You can get tattered clothing. It takes 5-6 mends (when clothing falls to 25 months). So... a tattered shirt takes oh, about 70x5, 350 IC months to tatter.
A silk bag can be tattered really quickly, but costs 800 a mend, and decays in 4 months.

Allowing tailors to take cloths apart to get the comms back should really be put in to give them the option forgers and jewelrers already have.
What's I'd like to see on all smelting skills is to have them take remaining time into account. It's totally silly that you get all (most, since some don't survive it, but the comms that do survive, you lose nothing of) back no matter how long passed, which allowes me to re-do my entire chainmail suit for 8 leather (cause last i heard cloth survived smelting) and I can do it 5 minutes after a bad one was made or after few years passed and my suit has 2 months before it decays.
Also, since I can't wear cloths with my armour (I can wear cloak, boots and belt, but nothing else really) I see no reason to buy other parts.
Shirts and pants should be allowed to wear under the armour, and maybe allow the use of greatrobes as long as they weren't enchanted against weapons, to give us who use armour more protection against magic.

oo, good idea. You can wear robes with armor, but the enchantment and proofs of the robes don't add to your protection if you're wearing armor.

I'm essentially naked, and wearing a freakin suit of armour.
Also, about smelting, if I smelt, I want my diamonds back. You realize how much heat it takes to melt those?
