Honors me

We really need the "he has composed a personal background" in our honors. It would help out with roleplay, and let people know that you put some thought into yourself. I always treated those with a background more seriously than those that never did. And, I swear, the only people who have read my background are the people I bring it up to.

Estarra? *puppy dog eyes*

And all you have to do is steal the code! biggrin.gif

It would be nice. Since I'll hopefully get around to writing Cronus' background soon. I want it planned out well first.
Unknown2004-11-22 21:21:39
I'm waiting for some feedback from a Divine on my background. If that goes well then I'd love this idea.
Melanchthon2004-11-23 02:25:27
I really liked that feature of Aetolia. It'd be great to have it here, as well.

So, Silvanus, I take that to mean you've never written a background and wouldn't be interested in that kind of honours line?

No, but the topic was about Honors.. so I showed the differnce between my honors' tongue.gif
Drago2004-11-23 03:10:18
I've never really liked questlines on honours.

I've also never really liked the fact that you've written a background shows up.

I've only ever submitted a background on my Imperian character, on aetolia I've got it written down in a text file. Lusternia I haven't really gone into much thought about it yet.

All I see the extra lines as is a "look at me!!!" thing, like how whenever there's an event everyone runs to it, regardless of whether their character would be involved or not.. *shrug*

What Drago said, and also, backgrounds shouldn't be visible to everyone. I completely agree that they're a RP tool, but think about how much -more- RP you get out of it if you sit down and talk about your past with people close to you. (Of course, you can share it out of game with people who would know it without being told, like your siblings.) And if they're not perticularly close to you in game, why would they know all the intimate details of your life? Of course, non-public backgrounds are good so that the divine know what you're putting into it, since they know Everything anyway.
Unknown2004-11-23 03:59:42
You can set the background to non-public... as for not knowing about said person without talking to them, look at 'honours' itself. Gender, race, name, clans, might, etc etc etc all without ever speaking to the person.
Unknown2004-11-23 04:03:22
My character knows his background. He doesn't want any fool who wants to to read about it.
Unknown2004-11-23 04:12:40
>SET HISTORY PRIVATE
Unknown2004-11-23 04:36:15
Eh, no point. No difference to me, or my character, if it's in a book or some 'history' function.
Unknown2004-11-23 07:05:59
So don't set it at all. Problem solved.
Unknown2004-11-23 08:23:07
My char doesn't know her whole background yet, so I see no point in entering my history right now. I'm surprised so many people disregard the fact that' you're not supposed to know everything right away.

Uh huh. One of the guilds has as a requirement a written background, already, about what your life was before you came through the Portal... This type of enforced RP just doesn't make sense.
Unknown2004-11-23 12:02:47
Yes its annoying when people assume because you havent written a background you havent got one. Everyother character in every other IRE game of mine have extensive backgrounds..but here that doesn't make sense. Alyss remembers very little, and ocassionally situations cause a memory to reappear she didnt have previously. Her background is none existent for a reason even she doesnt know it. It doesnt make her any less a worthwhile character.

Did I ever say I agreed with knowing all of that stuff? When I'm spending a lot of time interacting with someone, I'll make a point to introduce myself... so that they know my name....

And then you have people bombarding you with "read my background" or "Didn't you know that? Why didn't you read my background?"...
Unknown2004-11-23 16:11:53
I personally dont know that much about the lands to write a background. So i just make and delete characters and drift around, review, and find where i belong for the time being. And no, i dont just join a guild to see what skills they have, and log onto a second and blab all about it. That's cheating. i'd hate it if someone did it against me, so all of you out there worried about that, your guild secrets are safe with me. smile.gif But anyway, I think it would be best if the guild system was set up like it is in the other IRE games. Newbs just cant decid eo the spot, so there's the reason for all the alts. The age system is great, though. although I personally, would liek to see the age selection upped to about 70 or so. I mean, if your going as low as 16, they got to have grandparents, right? no ones grandparents are 29, at least, i hope their not.
