I am operating a shop right now. Want to sell in it? I charge 50% of all profit from the sale (you get 100% comm cost, 50% profit). No investment on my part, no work trying to sell it on your part.
So... a hefty 15-25% tax?

Wow, I just realized that my shop pricing policies are really stupid... no wonder everything sells out so fast, it's all ridiculously cheap and way below what everyone else sells for!

Not a tax, but a fee for the owner of the bazaar or auction house. Those owners can't work for free! It's like if you did not have a shop and wanted to sell an item in the shop of player, he would charge you a fee. Think of it that way.
The vehicle for free trade is the market channel, which IMO is lame since it has no in-game reason, but I got Sarapis to put it in Achaea to stem the massive market spam getting into shouts. (Yes, I was the one who originally suggested it! ) I don't want this place to have that same problem happen, though maybe village bazaars would eliminate the need for the market channel...

I really do hate the market channel. It gets as stupid as shouts some time. Perhaps we can look into the matter of auctions/bazaars seriously, if You ever have time to code such a thing?

I had an Auction House on Ultima Online until a few months ago, and I have to say that one of the main reasons people went to an Auction instead of just going to Tradespot.net or simply wandering around player shops was the interaction with other players.. Hell, an item worth 400,000gp in a shop sold at my auction for 1.5mil.. So while there are bargains, that isn't always why they come to Auctions..
That said, I think it would be nice to have some Guide type of people who would run the Auctions, or perhaps have an Auctioneer's Liscense (not sold for credits!) and an Auction Hall on the way up to Avechna's Peak, which can be booked for Auctions... The Auctioneer would take a percentage of the finishing bid, and the Auction House, would then take a percentage of that percentage for hosting the Auction, providing security (the room would need to be violence free), among other costs.
This, of course would mean that a 'Auction Day' would be set up by the person, instead of just randomly having items pop up to be auctioned by players.
