Haven't read or heard much about Geomancers. Any thoughts? concerns? observations? Seem more offensive than Aqua's, is this the case?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I have a feeling they're no better off than Aquamancers while bashing, since the only thing that changes, their demesne, is probably not often used. Mages bashing tend to be fairly good in general, though, because the damage on a blast is ever so slightly higher than on a cosmicfire according to my testing, and to boot, working in a team, reflection can work wonders. Two level twenties can beat sharks and starsuckers, amongst others, fairly easily with this method, because unless it was changed recently the reflection spell actually produces two reflections, one for an attack and one for BEING attacked. And reflection equilibrium is fairly fast. Not much clue about the PvsP, but for bashing you should be fine as a mage.

Geomancers seem to bash pretty much like Aquamancers with afew key differences.
1) Burrow. I don't know what the parallel that aquamancers get is, but geomancers get one of the ultimate saftey spells as soon as they branch into geomancy. If you can burrow in the room your in, you can hide out and wait for your health to come back up (this is assuming your bashing with Viscanti on tainted ground, Mercy, or both).
2) Pulse. We lost our tanky staff power and got handed a spell that basicly ups the damage on everything we do. Merians are smarter techincly, so they do more damage, untill you hit this spell and it all balances out again.
I'm mostly in love with the geomancers because since day one you are a stomping machine, blast is rightously powerful.

The Aquamancer equivalent, just for those curious, is waterbourne. Since most of us are Merian or we get a waterbreathing power in elementalism it has little effect, but it can't be stripped by lowmagic spring, and it also works on stilled water. Which is another Aquamancy power. That I've never seen anyone use. >_>

For PvP, I don't like chasm. It is like soulless only it doesn't require you to rub it 7 times, and nothing stops it (paralyse, web, etc). It doesn't seem to take power either, so they can keep using it repeatedly, forcing you to leave the room each time. Just irritating, since they have stonewalls as well, which there is no viable way to remove them.
Shamarah2004-11-24 00:17:20
Yeah, there definately should be a way to take down stonewalls. And that attack of theirs that spews out noxious clouds constantly is really cheap, because you have to wast time gusting them away or die of hunger
Shiri2004-11-24 00:39:49
That's kinda like saying that crotamine is cheap 'cause you have to drink a vial or die...I understand it takes different balance forms, but all the same, it takes balance for them to belch in the first place.
EDIT: Those stonewalls are extremely annoying, though. Specially when they lay them in, say, Southgard, so people can't get down the silly tunnels without aid of a furrikin or totemist.

Drinking antidote doesn't exactly take equilibrium, and thus stop you from attacking
Stavon2004-11-24 02:55:16
The 'crash' skill in Environment will take down stonewalls (unless it's bugged), though I haven't tried it myself. Of course... if you've got crash, you can already tumble past.

the gas is from them being viscanti not geomancers isn't it?
Unknown2004-11-24 09:38:56
Crash takes like... seriously... 30 times to break down a stonewall. It is useless. And chasm is just damn cheap and overpowered. It should work like cleave or judge from the other realms, such that being paralyzed, webbed, etc, will stop it from continuing.

Actually, we have both As viscanti we can blech it, as geomancers we can make the earth beltch it.

Chasm takes five power, soulless takes none.. thus the rubbing.

I imagine crash would take your size and strength into account. I tried it once then realized I was a Faeling trying to push over a stone wall meant to stop Igasho...

Does it take 5 power on completion, or on the start of it? I had it attempted on me about 9 times in a row, I'd leap out of the room, leap back in, they'd try it, so I'd leap out, leap in, wash, rinse, repeat, so it must be bugged or something. It still should be stopped by web, paralyse, etc, just like Sacraments judgement, which also costs 5 power (Though they don't have the benefit of stonewalls).

Apparently sleep stops chasm, if only it wasn't such a pain trying to get someone to sleep.
Shamarah2004-11-24 17:59:14
I mentioned the gas *that comes up from the ground* because I think it's a demesne effect that they just have to put up once, and no matter how many times you keep gusting it away it keeps coming back until it expires without them having to use equilibrium at all. If it's not a demesne attack and does take equilibrium or whatever for them to use, however, then I don't really have much of a problem with it.

Yeah, it does, but it takes balance for them to get you with the crotamine anyway, don't you think?

Drinking antidote does not take equilbrium...
Shiri2004-11-24 20:01:33
I wasn't referring to that taking equilibrium, though I admit I wasn't clear, but in any case it seems the gas Shamarah was talking about belches back up repeatedly anyway, so my point is moot to begin with!
