And just for the sake of argument - who other then you wants to restore Gloriana?
Unknown2004-11-24 23:40:20
Alot of people
Hazar2004-11-24 23:41:33
Aha. Descriptive. Wit is your strong point. I suggest you take up poetry.
Elryn2004-11-25 00:04:45
I voted for yes OOCly, and no IC. I think it would be great to have a dark alternative to Serenwilde and Ackleberry. Just not the way in which most seem to want to do it.
Incidentally I've also heard many in Serenwilde speak about the restoration of Gloriana; to Elryn its a commonly accepted goal.

A lot of people.
Wonderful.
Now, let me make one small argument, and correct me if I am wrong.
Glomdoring has a nexus, a guardian, and a multitude of quests. Just last night it was hinted to me by divine that different quests can open up once we do the ones that are open now. A possible restoration of the nexus even (I was inferring from what They told me).
Glomdoring was a halfway commune when the game opened. I think that it was made so that it could be opened up. I have seen no such pre-existing things in Glorianna.
Again, if I am wrong, tell me.

I don't know if it was set up one way or the other, but aside from the quests and fallen tower, Glomdoring also seems to me to be set up for moderate bashing. Putting in a commune would stop that function, wouldn't it?
Unknown2004-11-25 00:19:04
Of course not! You see people bashing Celest all the time!

Guess how I voted.
I'd like to see the Glomdoring made into a city/commune/whatever before Gaudy-Gulch and Hally-Fax because... well, for the obvious reason that I would be a member of it, but also the fact that the DoC, in my opinion, has worked harder than any other group to achieve the goal of a new community. (The other groups being the Serenwilde for the Glorina, and the various people wanting Gaugy/Hally).
Also, as I think Visaeris mentioned in some shouts, a handful of the people attempting to bring back the two lost cities are going against all things roleplayingish to do so.
"I am in the Serenwilde! I want to bring back Gaudiguch!"
"But the Serenwilde despises cities and all they stand for!"
"Yeah, but... I am a Dracnari, and bringing back my race's old home land is far more important than one of the most strongly held beliefs shared by myself an my communemates, many of whom also support the revival of the cities!"
"Right, but... you hate cities... or is each and every one of you the 'exception' to that little rule?"
"Yup! Now excuse me, there is glory to be gained!"
And so on. Call me a cynical prick, but... I am.

You need to look closer than dear boy...it is there.
I never said it wasn't there. I simply said that the number of people working for Gloriana is insignificant.
Akraasiel2004-11-25 01:26:11
Umm, Guido...youll note that those people from Serenwilde...they arent from Serenwilde anymore... we all left, well a lot of us did. Gaudiguch has always been my highest priority.

Well, to be fair, you essentially have to be in a city to be in a guild to bash...at least at some point...and apparently the Nomad/Mesa area is somewhat heated for low-level players, right? You gotta be somewhere.

Bah I hit the wrong button, I meant to pick OOC yes and IC no...but i did both yes. Oh well.
Qaletaqa2004-11-25 06:28:35
If Gaudiguch or Hallifax return I doubt they will be fully function cities right away...they may even be run by NPC's at the start.
Niara2004-11-25 08:36:44
I like the idea of Glomdoring coming back some day but I would prefer to see a city return first because right now we have two cities which are both very extreme. A third city that cares more for itself than for the 'light' or taint or fluffy bunnies would appeal to far more people than another extreme commune/city...and Glomdoring would be extreme.
Thorgal2004-11-25 14:05:13
I doubt the divine would want to make the game boring, and I can't think of anything more boring than a Serenwilde-clone called Gloriana. I mean, what would be the differences between Gloriana and Serenwilde? There's not much point in making two communes with the same ideals, goals, etc, cause that's what Gloriana would become.
Arthalas2004-11-25 16:18:13
Nay for me. The IC standpoint is fairly obvious, given that I'm Serenguard. The OOC standpoint is a little hard to explain, and borders on pure speculation.
The problem I feel is that of inertia. Once everyone gets into the 'Magnagora vs Celest' mentality it's very hard to break out of it. And Serenwilde will be lulled into a perpetual 'neutral' mentality.
But I feel that having Glomdoring established this early in the game will just polarise Lusternia into 'Magnagora vs Celest, Serenwilde vs Glomdoring', something even harder to snap out of.
Each city will then have its own 'natural enemy', and there will be very little incentive to promote conflict between others (eg Celest vs Serenwilde, or Celest vs Glomdoring).
Most likely Magnagora will pair up with Glomdoring on one side, and Celest will end up with Serenwilde on the other. This may actually stretch everyone's RP paper-thin in order to justify the OOC advantages.

The Gloriana IS a bad idea if you think of it purely as another commune like the Seren, but you have so many possibilities beyond that. It could be cleansed in some way, but be a much more primitive version of a nature commune. Not primitive in caveman like, but just very ritualistic and be quite upset at the Serenwilde for having as many luxuries as they do have. The idea of ritualistic/primitive forest guilds have been suggested in all three IRE games, with several groups attempting to get them started.
If the taint was removed, perhaps freeing Gib, his mind may be warped enough to hate the Serenwilde as well for not rescuing him. The inhabitants could harbor bitter anger against all those who didn't save them, and that hatred could be directed at the last commune standing (currently).
There are many possibliities, and frankly when you say you don't want to see another Gloriana...I don't want to see another Magnagora. Someone mentioned that they see the Serenwilde teaming with Celest in that situation....please....we get along the worst with Celest than any other group so far. I OOCly would love to see the other two cities return, but I see the Glomdoring just becoming the Magnagora of the forest which is quite boring. I would rather the Gods concentrate their efforts elsewhere on something diverse as opposed as just another tainted commune/city.

Don't really see what's wrong with it, seems only natural, and its already proven what weird stuff can happen, when everyone thought Serenwilde would side with Celest, they killed a couple Fae and are now blindly hated for it. And now Mag and Seren have truce, so unless Glomdoring comes around, Serenwilders won't have any conflict at all, seems a tad boring. Glomdoring is needed for a lot of stuff, making life interesting for the Serens is one of them. I can't imagine them wanting to play pacifists eternally.
Shiri2004-11-25 17:24:55
Actually, I'd like a Glomdoring commune BEFORE a city. That way, Serenwilde actually has some direct moral competition and doesn't just get the opportunity to sit on its arse and whine all the time. I do wonder if it'll turn out like Celest and never be able to organise anything against Glomdoring's Magnagora-like discipline. Hrmm.
Hazar2004-11-25 18:57:12
I feel that the gods will have to come up with a Glomdoring-type commune eventually, or else Serenwilde will devolve into Celidon, Khandava, or Oakstone - sitting around and doing squat. And that kind of forestal is something the gods, particularly Auseklis, have seemed to want to avoid from the beginning.
