A living totem unleashes a bolt of energy that slams into you.
Hmmmm. Why must everything be so difficult to figure out?
A living totem unleashes a bolt of energy that slams into you.
A prickly stinging overcomes your body, fading away into numbness.
A living totem unleashes a bolt of energy that slams into you.
You blink for a moment, then instantly, all about you is darkness.
A living totem unleashes a bolt of energy that slams into you.
A living totem unleashes a bolt of energy that slams into you.
An odd sensation descends upon you.

None may stand in your way! You are invincible!

I think that's enough to get the point across. Maybe for other races it isn't such a setback, but losing nearly 80% of a level as a Tae'dae is like kicking a male igasho in the groin. With a foot that is actually a tree.

I recently went from 46 (18%) to 45 (17%). Lost just over an entire level.
Ouch!
Ouch!

The losses are a bit much, though it does make the market for vitae more viable.
Unknown2004-11-26 01:56:53
Most I ever lose at a time is 5-10%, at level 66. Vitae - it's wonderful.
Unknown2004-11-26 08:26:29
Selling vitae and all other potions, AD 34!
...yeah, experience loss from dying is slightly ridiculous. If it wasn't for vitae (which STILL keeps me bleeding after I'm revived using that) then I'd be, like, level 32 instead of 40 right now. I am an accident magnet.

The XP losses are no different than Achaea was for many many years, and possibly the other games still are. (I'm not as up on Imperion and Aetolia as I am Achaea.)
Daganev2004-11-26 22:20:36
well imperian has a set XP loss. You don't lose more exp if your dead for longer, but you also can't walk around as a soul.
Unknown2004-11-26 23:12:04
i think the death system should be like it is in imperian. people wont get discouraged to die. i mean, sure, you dont want to die, but at least hwen you die there, you can actively participate in comming back to life through the underworld quests.
Daganev2004-11-26 23:58:32
The underworld in imperian serves more purposes. The whole story of lusternia would have to change I think, and you wouldn't have soul stuff so much. Although I admit, I do like the enhanced RP of death in Imperian.
Death as just another plane... could be intersting.

Having to do chores for the Fates in order to convince them to weave you back into the Tapestry might be an interesting variation on the concept. After all, when one is dealing with the loom of Creation, there isn't much time left over to do the laundry.
Melanchthon2004-11-27 03:12:03
The experience loss for death is entirely manageable. If you lose more than 5-8%, then you didn't take a precaution you could have. That said, I'm all for heavy death penalties...and it takes me 74 Astral creatures to recoup 8% at the moment.
I also think how we revive at the Portal of Fate makes sense as it is. It wouldn't benefit from tweaking.

I too miss the Dis quests from Imperian. That was a great deviation from the lame praying stuff.
Acar2004-11-27 06:12:42
Grr that xp loss has to definately go down, earlier today i was at level 40 98% i prayed as soon as possible, maybe withint 5 seconds of death..then i came back and i was at level 40 2%
Shiri2004-11-27 11:25:34
Okay, so I didn't play Imperian for anything more than a couple days, so I don't know how much war there is there, but by the sheer amount of conflict in Lusternia, I'd think adding the Dys (or whatever) system would be kinda fatal. Every time people died they had to spend ages trying to get back to life, it'd be even more discouraging for Celest, for example, to actually bother fighting, than it is now.

That is complete garbage. Unless whatever you are fighting doesn't chase/doesn't chase fast, then all that vitae means is that you lose 90% plus the extra 8% from vitae. In most scenarios, Vitae means you are just going to die again anyway, unless you are dying bashing rockeaters around the rim.
Val2004-11-27 13:13:55
Last I knew the exp death forumla worked like this, at lower levels(40 would be lower) you lose more, but you can regain that alot faster. At higher levels you will lose less, I died at level 76 and only lost about 30-40% which granted sucks as it takes way more to regain that then it would take a level 40 to regain 90%. Vitae works great for off plane deaths, it's not hard to run 1 or 2 rooms the second you vitae and burrow/fly/rock something to hide. Vitae shouldn't be a I died and keep fighting, it should be I died now run like hell(thou you probably should have started running before you vitae'd). Ofcourse off plane deaths for a trans planar is about 4-8% and you come back at your nexus, which is really nice.

Well, actually, it didn't work like that. It took me less time to get through Dis then it takes me here. Once you've figured out some of the quests, it shouldn't take anybody perticularly long. The only times it takes forever is when you have a LOT of people down there (more then 5 at once and more then 10 within the last 5 minutes), and that's usually only during massive team pvp events, like pvp capture the flag, so you stick one person down there getting tokens for your side and it becomes an interesting part of your strategy, not just "oh, I died, pray".
Richter2004-11-27 19:07:13
I died, came back with vitae, died again, and ended up losing next to nothing. Death seems kinda random to me...

Well, if relying on vials of Vitae is your technique for staying alive, I can see where you might have problems.

Yeah, lower exp loss would be great. With all the warring and such, I dropped from level 61 to 55, worked my ass off and went from 55 to 63 in half a day, but got completely burnt out on bashing. So of course, village retaking came and I dropped from 63 to 52, and I'm slowly regaining everything.. its a pain in the ass. :/ plz hlp m3.
