What artifacts do you think would totally and completely ruin the game? Keep it somewhat realistic (e.g. no giant assault rifles of magical doom, something that you could see being put in, somehow).
Rhysus2004-11-27 01:55:11
Aeon artifacts. I remember seeing these in Achaea a long time ago, but they were nerfed so quickly I'm pretty sure they were all returned pretty fast. The aeon ability just imbalances certain classes to the point of absurdity.

Buckawn boots.

stat boosting artifacts.

anything that reduces power costs across the board... I belive the idea was to add a new level of strategy where it took time to know how and when to do powerfull attacks.

the forsaken cubix and things that will make people godly o.o
Unknown2004-11-27 04:05:52
I'd just like artifacts that don't make things unbalanced. If you've got lots of credits, you can Trans your skills almost instantly and that should make you powerful enough right off the bat. If there's artifacts, they should either be useful or make a difference in ways so minor that it barely matters. So what I'd hate to see would be:
-Anything that boosts stats or health, mana, or ego.
-Artifact weapons, armor, or anything that increases damage.
-Anything that speeds up balance or equilibrium.
-Anything that blocks afflictions.
EDIT: However, if there were some way to let Forgers make artifact-like weapons and armor, I'd be fine with that. Just not so any average joe could make them.

I've played IRE as long as most of the other big people, maybe longer then some. I've never seen how stat boosting arties can unbalance things. Expecialy in this world where a knight can already hit what 22 or 23 strength. What is wrong with letting a mage get a 21 int? And for those that don't know, 25 is the max for a stat.
Asarnil2004-11-27 12:40:47
Val, you have obviously never fought Tranquility from Achaea without his artifacts. With his artifacts he was counted as one of the best for a HUGE period of time, but whenever he fought without them he would get his ass invariably handed to him on a platter if he was fighting anyone decent.
Val2004-11-27 12:44:02
I remember him, but thats just like saying someone who spends a ton to trans out thier skills are godly. Artifacts are no different, and expecial in this world where there are plenty of ways to increase your stats, artifacts that do that wouldn't be that big of a difference.
Rhysus2004-11-27 15:47:13
Except for the fact that skills that raise your stats are built into an archetype that is meant to be in a state of balance with the other archetypes. Artifacts, on the other hand, exist -outside- of that assumed balance, and so, by -design- create an imbalance. When they directly affect things like damage dealt on a consistent basis, especially when it can vary by up to a couple hundred extra points of damage per attack, the imbalances become severe.

Artifact weapons. If they come out, masterwork weapons will doubtlessly become little more than 'cult' items - pretty, and cool for RP, but useless in comparison.
Also anything related to regenerating power, or converting power to a certain nexus type, or slowly regenerating it no matter what (remotely draining the nexus is okay MAYBE, but nothing else). Aquamancers in Magnagora, wicca in Celest? That'd be as nauseating as I hear (all 5 billion of) the 'good' vampires are Aetolia. There's meant to be some cost if you're going to go rogue... unless you're willing to try to create your own nexus or somesuch.
On that note, I hope we never see anything along the lines of 'personal nexus: 13,000 credits' either

That would be pretty bad, I agree. It seems to me that the purpose of having special skills that tie in with certain nexuses (nexii?) is also to emphasize the importance of your city.
Note: You can still link and take power, no matter what class, if you are tied to a nexus. Some skills just require a certain nexus.

I know, and I hope things never change to allow Moondancers to utilise Pool power for their Moonhart-only abilities, etc. I understand that some abilities don't require a specific type of power, but these are basically the more neutral-type abilities anyway. Lowmagic things, rituals, things that aren't inherently 'tainted' or 'forestal'.

I wouldn't mind any kind of artifacts, the more arties get bought, the more money Lusternia brings in, the more money it brings in, the better our world will become. Wouldn't get disturbed by some overpowered artie'd up omnitrans pk'ers, knowing it's cause of them the world is growing so huge and wonderful .

If people use the artifacts to make other people's Lusternian lives hell, that's not making the world better. Artifacts can still be created that people like and want to buy, without resorting to... level 3 artifact weapons, Veil of the Sphinx, eagle wings, etc. etc., the things that people like Jarik (and Cain, though not to the same extent) used to just be idiots in Achaea. Repeatedly raiding and killing Hashan's guards over and over... it's funny if you just hear about it, but if you were to live in Hashan and it made you feel like you never wanted to log in, that's not good for the game.
Lusternia being a really fun game, and 50 people buying 200 credits each, is surely better than (just a hypothetical example) a few people enjoying being 'griefers', everyone else hating the situation, and the three or four 'griefers' buying 1000 credits each.

Err.. what?
Tranquility only paid for one Artifact, at least that I can recall.. 800 credits for a set of Eagle Wings. The rest he got because he was such a kickass fighter that he sold his fighting system for thousands upon thousands of credits..
Now maybe in the Age of Autocuring and Artifacts, Tranq couldn't beat good fighters without his own artis, but he still holds the distinction of being the real badass.
Geb2004-11-28 02:04:28
For one thing, most people will rarely purchase 200 credits. If they can gain credits in game without spending their money; many will choose that path. The artifact buyers are the ones that bring in the big money for a game. Level 3 knuckles are 1600 credits, Level 3 bands are 1k credits, Level 2 regeneration rings are 850 credits. That is a lot of money spent right there. If Lusternia follows what most of you are asking for, this mud will barely be able to pay for its bandwidth.
There is no reason to purchase anymore than one to two thousand credits in this world, if there are no artifacts available that are desirable beyond just some role-play purpose. I suggest the people who run this game talk with Matt and listen to his advice, rather than the advice of the people who have it in their mind that 200 credits is anything more than a drop in the bucket.

Oh, yeah. Trust me, I'm with you 100% on this one. This thread won't be heeded, because this is a business. It'd just be nice to see a world with no stat boosting artifacts.
As Jerle on Achaea I invested thousands of dollars, so I know what you mean about spending.
