I could see a gnome-like Furrikin. Or for some reason a mugwump, but I don't know why I think that.

I was thinking faeling, but the wings don't work... a pity for Imraddelamencríonnamórfiosrachleanbhaelfenanfaeleanbhaserenwildeanfaelingadimighacathairatéighsatóirarfreagraaceist.
(Badly translated from Gaelic as:
Imraddel-the-wise-great-curious-child-of-elfen-and-fae-child-of-Serenwilde-the-faeling-who-went-to-the-city-chasing-answers-to-many-questions)

Not a bad first name I suppose... leaving out specifics for ancestors and such... could be interesting.

More commonly known to humans as Imrad.

Do furrikins take humanoid form?
Shiri2005-02-12 23:57:42
We're all basically miniature humanoids that resemble animals, from foxes & bunnies to bears & HYENAS (QUIET DESDEMONA), but we don't really look like gnomes, no.

Indeed. I think furrikin will do nicely. This name seems to grow though. It's now :

Imraddelamencríonnamórfiosrachleanbhascaróchéilebollikinleanbhaforaoiseanfurrikinadimighacathairatéighsatóirarfreagraaceistaréiteachiomchuíalorgsachássinafadhbéirighmátharlaíonnfadhbannadensórtsinsatóiraraeolaseolasdea-mheasaguscleachtarnahealaíonaachurchuncinnnócabhrúlecaighdeáinnan-ealaíonafheabhsúsespriocforásnaheolaíochtaagusnateicníochtaciallaíonntaighdeeolaíochtaaonghníomhaíochtaíiréimnaheolaíochtanádúrthanófeidhmiúlad'fhonneolasamhéadú

Which, again badly and very roughly transalted from Gaelic (I like the language alright!) is:

Imraddel-the-wise-great-curious-child-of-the-splitting-of-Bollikin-child-of-forest-the-furrikin-who-went-to-the-city-chasing-answers-to-many-questions-should-the-occasion-arise-and-seek-appropriate-solutions-to-problems-which-arise-if-such-problems-arise-in-the-search-of-knowledge-and-to-promote-the-knowledge-appreciation-and-practice-of-the-arts-or-assist-in-improving-the-standards-of-the-arts-for-his-goal-is-scientific-and-technical-development-for-scientific-research-means-any-activities-in-the-fields-of-natural-or-applied-science-for-the-extension-of-knowledge.

Gnomic enough, you think? Though saying it may be regarded as spamming. Maybe if he joined a family or great house even there could be a surname...

Shiri2005-02-13 00:23:23
I would find that...incredibly amusing, and I would adore anyone who did it and did it well, but no one would understand where it came from and if anyone went around saying "Imraddel" was his first name and his real name was he would be despised and hated. sad.gif But I'd love ya! happy.gif

It could be a laugh.

You're right. I created Imraddel, and already I've had a complaint.

Ah, geez. tongue.gif Some people, eh?
Desdemona2005-02-13 01:15:59
I just read the thread title and the first post... anyway here is my proposal:

The Monolithic Meteor of Confusion!

Somewhere in the near future, thanks to the cycling of the planets and a revertebration surging accross the planes from the Astral, a meteor comprised from essence of every plane (Ethereal, Cosmic, Astral), begining as a diminutive speck of energy in Astral that commits transplanar travel due to the magnetic pull from Prime, and begins deriving essence from all the other planes, solidifying, clashes on the Prime... causing confusion all throughtout the continent! Making every adventurer forget their common tongue.

After a period of confusion, beings quickly find themselves only being able to communicate with beings that looked the same or better said were of their same species. Due to this, adventurers could only communicate racially for many years... until the residents of the respective communes/cities, thanks to living around their commune/city folks, devise the commune/city languages. This allowing better communication between people of the same nations. With the Common tongue that once united us stuck in limbo for eternity! And so begins the Era of miscommunication.

Nobody understands my new character anyway.

And screwing over everyone who isn't an Elfen, Merian or Viscanti even more, because there are only like 8 Furrikini in existence. dry.gif

Seriously? That's crazy.

Speaking of which. I haven't met any one-eyed giants either... what's that race called?
Shiri2005-02-13 01:30:10
Krokani. Cuber's one, that's about it. And okay, maybe 8 is a bit of an exaggeration. But whenever I'm on, I am the ONLY one. (Okay, except one changeling I know.) And I am on 1/3 of the time. More like 2/3 of the time at weekends and holidays.
Jack2005-02-13 01:49:17
I can name, off-hand, about five mugwump: me, Yuniko, Dumihru, sometimes Tuek, and Visaeris (who's quit now, anyway). I'm sure I must be exaggerating, too, but I really can't think of anyone else. Still, it sounds like a good idea..

Kinda..

Psh.... there are only about 3-4 Taurians, that I've seen. Still, you would eventually develope Serenwilde/Celest/Magnagoran languages. So all people of Serenwilde would begin to be able to communicate. Also, as more years pass, people would be able to learn other languages (not like Achaea's learning system, something different), but never again being able to speak the so called Common tongue.,

Babel all over again...
Shiri2005-02-13 02:09:02
Noo. I hate that idea. sad.gif Elfen/Merian/Whatever are -already- too good and strong compared to other races, fair enough, but don't just screw over everyone else entirely!
Desdemona2005-02-13 02:18:58
Exactly, Babel is the idea! Good for noticing.

By the way, how can you consider the Common tongue as a strength or weakness for races? It just allows easy communication, and if people wanted to, they would all be speaking on their racial tongues if they wanted to (my Orclach alt used to speak in Orclach just to about anyone). In any case, the races would have difficult to communicate between races, so everyone would be equally penalized on the aspect that no one would be able to speak interracially.

Also, because implementing this to things that can be considered written language... I think would be very very difficult. The written language could be the same for everyone, enabling people to communicate through letters or posts just the same. (though, if the common written language could be rid off... it would be great! Imagine "Readnews post 123213, Uninteligible scrabblings have been sprawled accross the page). Yay! biggrin.gif

This Monolithc Meteor of Confusion gave me many ideas... I'll post them another day (will have to do with enviromental changes, reminiscence on some NPCs of past events, Hallifax and Gaudiguch becoming more nearer to be found, a link through ethereal connecting to Acklberry, something special for furrikins ( wink.gif ) and taurians, and Avechna suddenly getting a brain becoming sentient). I'll develope further later.
Shiri2005-02-13 02:23:38
No, everyone would NOT be equally penalised. Because there are a tonne more Elfen than Furrikin, so they have 3/4 of Serenwilde to talk to, I have a piddling 3 people! It would be interesting, but I play the game for the communication, not just randomly bashing until one of the other 4 people that can understand what the Nil I'm on about appears. dry.gif
