Village ideas!

I thought it was a little strange that the human race, who only just arrived, already have two villages to themselves. It's not that weird, considering they're able to adapt more than any other race, but there should still be some for other races.

So there are just my ideas. If anyone has any more, feel free to throw them out.

Gork - Deep within the mountains, (even deeper than the dwarven settlements), a purely igasho primeval settlement. Very reclusive. They produce mountain-goat meat and cheese and milk, and leather from a mountainous variation of those lizards you find in Dairuchi. The quests could involve helping the chieftain find his powerful club, and recapturing all the deep-mountain-goats that escaped.

Myrtle Hamlet - A very small hamlet based in the swamp, made up of mugwumps and krokani, named after the first plant that the founding mugwump saw when he entered the bog - a myrtle. Their main export would be squid and swamp-fish? Quests could involve diving in the bog and retrieving a certain scroll, or slaying the giant hungry squid to earn an honours title.

Mestophis - The ancestral home of the aslaran and the taurians, within the plains to the west of the Basin. Main export would be buffalo meat and cheese and milk, although there's a slight divide between the aslaran and the taurians, as the taurians are very against the slaughter of a lesser race which look like them, and the aslaran are all for it. An honours quest could involve trying to bring peace.

If I have any more, I'll post them. What about you guys? deal.gif

Well.. I know the Grey Moors village, I believe in the history it mentions the Krokani and Aslaran's living in Grey Moors while defending Castle Djarrakah, I believe that'd be the next village that'd come back.

A Merian village where it could produce fish and gems from underwater expidations

Myrtle Hamlet would be a great place for rice paddies, or perhaps sugarcane in the drier bits. Perhaps also a smallish hemp field. Mary was cheerfully suggesting that Magnagora fund the reestablishment of such a community a while back (it had something to do with raising a peninsula from the floor of the Inner Sea, if I recall) but was distracted by a piece of tinfoil or something before she got around to properly petitioning it.

Perhaps the scroll-and-squid thing could be combined into a quest that requires a specific recipie to do...uh...something, cure MacGuffin's Disease or whatever. The squid--which can be killed, outwitted, or fed a treat--guards the private home of one of the village's late shamans (shamen?), and some Stewartsville-esque attention-to-detail-and-problem-solving variables must be figured out, found, mixed properly by the new shaman, etc. to cure the whatever. Since I'm sort of making this up as I go along it's a little disjointed...I'll probably work on expanding this in a .txt file later today.

I was watching Harry Potter, and looking at Diagon Alley... It would be neat to have a dark, damp, but slightly magical village like that.

A probable reason why there are two human villages I think is primarily due to the city-states being racist in general. Viscanti, Merian, Trill, Lucidian, and Dracnari.

Just a guess but the humans are rather alone in that sense. Just like you could say there are two Dwarven villages divided by differences, but still like to be isolated. Just like humans would generally like a village of pure breeds instead of half breeds.

I think there should at least be a merian and an elfen village, to make up for Angkrag being an undead/viscanti-type place... It doesn't seem fair that Mag gets a village (And this includes Acknor too, although not to the same extent I think) that neither of the others want, whereas there aren't any villages that Mag doesn't want...

The Grey Moors aren't a village.

EDIT: And to Sidharta below: a few ideas similar to those may be closer than you'd imagine.

The histories refer to several merian villages (settlement, cities, whatever) underwater... they were destroyed by the soulless, but I would like to see more, given that this points to merians not being opposed to expansion into new areas. Perhaps a group of merians could rebel against the Light/Celest, and form a new village underwater?

I'd love to see a mugwump village in Balach, too, but not until Project Soulforce comes up and is explored as an issue, and... somehow reversed or something.

Igasho are meant to be wanderers, aren't they? An igasho or two in another village would be cool, but not a village to themselves.

An aslaran village would be fun. Perhaps some sort of isolated taurian/aslaran/loboshigaru village - all three in the one place - that's centred on fighting? They could have a small arena, and a sort of militaristic ideology. Quests for an area like that doubtlessly have many possibilities!

Ok, another idea.

A trill and partly faeing town very high in the mountains, Trillen, overlooking a verdant valley. Their main export would be eagle eggs, I suppose, and the quests would involve helping Old Mrs Trill find all her lost chicks, and returning all Mayor Trillby's lost feathers! For the chicks, there could be something similar to the tae'dae cubs in Estelbar.

It would come with a small history - although the trill's main ancestral settlement near Hallifax in the eastern mountains was destroyed by the taint, the main trill could have flown to the northwestern peaks, which were beautiful but relatively undiscovered. A small group of recluse faelings, (left Gloriana when they thought the taint was coming/left Ackleberry or Serenwilde when they heard they were both thinking about phasing out of reality), could have helped them construct Trillen.

Feel free to use these ideas, You guys up there, if you think they're any good.

Very minor issue, but I don't see faelings doing well in mountains. One solid downdraft and you've got bits of faeling scattered from there to Rockholm. And we all know how hard it is to get faeling out of your hair.

But Castle Djarrakah is, I think that is hwo it spelled, and it was located in the Grey Moors.
Richter2004-11-30 23:50:11
Perhaps a village made of that castle, and the surrounding areas? Like a fuedal kind of thing?

You mean feudal? nonono.gif

Fusion of ideas, coming up.

Raus Village -

A peaceful settlement of mugwumps, Raus farms rice and seafood, and sits on the east shore of the Inland Sea. A relatively magical community, many of the locals practice alchemy or enchantments. The village is always dark and gloomy, rumored to be the curse of an angered witch nearby.

P.S. Forgive me for the stunted nature of my writing - I'm tired, and also just flipped to this from a history fair paper.
Unknown2004-12-02 17:53:02
"Raus", at first glance, sounds like a name for a taurian village. Don't ask me why. cloud9.gif
Shiri2004-12-02 19:48:17
TauRaus? I guess. I had the same thought, anyway. Maybe something more amphibian-stereotypical. *not even going to attempt to exercise lone creativity-orientated brain cell*

Frogtown! Amphibville! Slimeston! Croakdale!
Unknown2004-12-02 19:52:05
Stop dissing the Merians. we need a village too!
