Luckily for you, PhotoShop isn't the only (good) option: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/ is completely free. (It also runs on Linux or Mac. http://www.gimp.org/ )

I own photoshop on my computer at home... my laptop is a meezly 700mhz and can barely run word. And I'm useless in photoshop without my tablet.

And gimp is good, but photoshop is better. Though I do use gimp for texture editing since its pattern matcher is 10times better.

Wingimp tablet support is now about a million times better (it works, for one thing, it actually works pretty well, for another). GIMP is better in that you can strip it down to run on very sad, old computers.

I tend to find the problem with artistic programs is not with the power of the computer but the amount of Ram you have, and stripping the program down doesn't help that. I like to work big and save many layers so I can go back and forth with my designs till I find something I like. Ever since 95 I've had 512 ram, and my laptop has 256 so its just not workable.

Ok.. back to the map conversation!

I just had this idea was wondering if anyone would comment on... Using Maya or 3dsMax to create a 3d square and line ... or rather cube and line map.
Would there be a way to navigate that map on the net? I'm imagining a map thats a mix between what Zmud mapper creates and the maps from Descent 3. Esepcially for the astral plane.
